There appears to be something coated in dust sticking out of the lump of crap,It looks sort of like a bottom-plate type thing,Down in the lower right corner?Would you happen to have any idea to as what that is?

hi

hi Alex its a plastic meat container apart from a plastic bag it was the only other thing in the bin when i emptied the two bags

Why a lot of beds John ? Or was that a metaphor for something ?

Beautiful machines Anthony, what I'd give to own two Hoovers like that...

Im assuming John said that the machine has been under a lot of beds because the paint is worn right off of the face of the handle, probably from scraping on old bed frames.

Just what I got out of it...

paint wear

i see what you mean the idea of it going under a bed and wearing the paint off had never crossed my mind but now i think about it its really the only explanation i guess the otherone hasnt been under any beds then . The house they came from was a large detached i would say 1920s style inside it was like stepping back in time . the Hoovers were in the kichen which was about half a mile away we went down the hall which was carpeted in the red carpet although it wasnt fitted the floor was polished down the sides the carpet went right up the endless staircase . the kichen was huge i would say the ground floor of my two bed semi would have fitted in the kichen the floor in there was painted red there was a large cream Frigidair fridge whirring away in the corner and a cream 1950s 6 burner cooker [new world i think]a belfast sink with a wooden drainer with an Ascott geyser on the wall [when did you last see one of them . the lady told me this was her fathers house he had died and she was wanting to sell the house it was then i noticed the big cream washing machine in the scullery i think it may have been a Parnall i could tell by the lever on the front , the lady told me her father looked after his machines and that the Hoovers were regularly serviced at a shop in Sheffield acording to the white labels on the handles of both machines they were last done in 1989 she also said that she seemed to remember a cardboard Hoover box with tools inside and if she comes across them i can have them so all in all a bargain and well worth the 30 mile drive from Leeds if i only had three hundred grand i would have had the house as well ha cheers Tony

Dates

The 612 is from the second half of 1954 probably about August and the 119 from the first half of 1955 - i would guess from about February. They were certainly cgunting these cleaners out - 1954 was a record year for Hoover sales & profits

Maybe we should start a forum of our own John; Bed Land. I do like beds, but I can never get out of mine, that is the problem.

I do wonder if there are people who collect beds though...

Wouldn't that be interesting, a forum about beds lol, that could get pretty pricey, let alone how big they are, it would be hard to find a place for them! LOL. And John, Id love to get my hands on a convertible one day! My funds aren't running very high lately however, so I will have to wait a while, but I would really like to get one. I only have one real Hoover, and thats a model 636, the turquoise model 63 with the cord on the outside of the handle and foot pedal switch. I love that machine, and I look forward to getting a convertible. There are none in windsor however... believe me, I have tried. I only saw one model 65 at my local vac shop, but it was a machine that someone owned and wouldn't sell unfortunately :/

update

I got an email from the very nice lady saying she had found the box of tools and if the picture on the box is anything to go by they fit the big hoover . I went to pick them up sure enough they are for the 612 .The box is a bit tatty but the tools are in very good condition as you all probably know they are not very efective the suction is little more than useless may be that explains why the tools are in good . I am curently making a new bag for the 612 somthing more like the origional i did this once before for my other 612 lets hope i can do it again its not an exact copy but it looks better than the grey one heres a picture
