Another Ranger Question!

This time I'm looking for confirmation that the highest height setting (the one above thin pile) is for when the hose is attached via the pan converter ?

I do have an observation however - If this is the case, then surely the brush roll would be pressed against the carpet harder than ever when the hose is in use, something you actually want to AVOID! Maybe I'm wrong on both accounts...

yes you are wrong

1. The ranger does not use a pan converter, the hose goes in at the back, under the bag

2. The converter (or what attaches the hose) has a piece of metal under it which ensures the front is raised above the carpet no matter what the pile setting is

I know where it goes in, I'm not completely stupid!

I just thought it was called a pan converter, obviously not...

So if the height setting isn't for the converter, what IS that top one for ?

Seeing how you asked me to reply, vacbear has said it all. There are 4 height settings, that's it. There isn't another one above or below that.

So the one I described here is another height setting, lower than the "thin pile" one with the thin red line ?

I always thought there were three, the ones with the red corresponding logos.

Shag, Medium and Thin Pile...

Four positions. The user would just keep moving the lever until they found one they liked for the carpet. Any writing or whatever was only a basic guide as to what height was best for what surface. As I am sure you know, a good deal of cleaners never have anything written on, they just have numbers or dashes etc.

That's true and I've also noticed that different cleaners work best at different height settings even on the same pile carpet.

I've got a very thin pile rug in the hall which never really gets very well cleaned with the Ranger due to me thinking the one with the thinnest red line was the lowest setting, so I'll try again today using the absolute lowest setting and see what happens.

I used the "newly discovered" lower setting on the thin pile rug today and it worked a whole lot better!
