I don't know why, but

at some point in the night Matt had to handle the "foreign entity" (aka the Filter Queen). As you'll see, he did it quite cautiously ...

And that's it.

Again, a great time truly was had by all. I look forward with much anticipation to having the PA contingent here to Buffalo sometime: until then, many thanks to John, Rob, and Matt for the hospitality, camaraderie, laughs, and just plain FUN!

I never check the vintage forum because I am more interested in contemporary machines, but when I remember to, I'm always amazed at what I find! John, it looks like another success... who can beat good food and fun vacuums and friends and kitties thrown in the mix just for good measure. Makes me remember the few times I was able to attend mini-meets at Terrys...

In that first Convertible picture, I used to have one like the one on the left... it was a wild turquoise color... the brushroll didn't have any beater bars and the handle was the same shape as a non-power drive Concept. I gave it to someone who really needed a vacuum when I was moving and I don't know what ever became of it.

Nice to get the other perspectives as well! Btw, Bill, I like your youtube vidoes :o)

Thanks Bobby! I'm going to have to start doing them again. It's been a while since I've made any, and I have some new machines to make videos of -- especially some of my recent European acquisitions!

WE heard that Rob,(Zippy)

finally made a Filter queen sale. I doubt they had a HOOVER in the house. Yes, malts, etc.. a LOT of things Zippy has never tried before. The list goes on, I'm sure.
WE'll have to look into another mini meet, perhaps in the Fall, again, like last October's " Monster Mash Bash". There'll be another guestroom finished by then (please , God). It's very rare, but nice, to have people staying here. The house used to have 7 people living in it. Now, there's just the two cats and myself. The neighbors will know I've had company again when they see all of the bedsheets out on the line. My Chinese neighbor saw the 2 lines full one day and said, "Oh, such a clever use for all that string". uhuh.......
I hope to put some mini meet photos in my book that I'll take to the convention.

turbopower

John

I was just wondering if you were able to have a look at the brush roll of the turbo power which is rather different to the "traditional" style. Did US Hoovers post 1983 (or so) have a modified brush roll?

Al

Al, I didn't think to look that carefully.

I'll get a bunch of mine out, flip them over and show photos. You'll get a good look at lots of different machines. There ARE some rather obvious difference betwen 'yours' and 'ours'. Even having the 'Rangers' together, side by side, shows how similar AND dis-similar they really are . I've even npoticed differences in the tolls (attachments). I just got a brand new bare floor brush in from Ed Shenkle in North Canton. They are clearly different. Someday, I'd love to gewt one of those floor nozzles that 'flip', like an Electrolux. HOOVER never carried them here. It's 'on my list'.

Comparisons

John

It would be really interesting to know - actually I could do some of that here as I have a US made 4003 to compare with UK rangers too. Looking at all the rangers early on in the thread it looks like the handle might be somewhat shorter - which I think stems from using essentially the same handle for both the Junior and Senior models (at least for part of the series), which accounts for the flex/cord being on the opposite side, The shape of the hand grip, the foot switch etc ..... And of course a UK Hoover makes carpets not rugs last longer.

By the way the lens for the light would have originally been much lighter - rather like the US ones, I have never seen a 4002 where this discolouration does not happen, but never in the later, green 4014.

Excluding the carpet/rug nozzle, Hoover UK retained the broadly the same design of tools from the 638 Senior and 822 Connie in 1956 (and actually the floor nozzle can be traced back to 1953 to the 417) right through to the mid 1980s where some variety began to appear, and in some cases well beyond that. The exception is the upholstery nozzle (with the row of plastic red teeth) which was introduced with the 862 Connie.

We will have to see if we can short you out with a flip over nozzle although, in my opinion, the earlier carpet nozzle (as shown below) is superior.

If you have a look at Sam's Turbopower junior threads you will get a good look at what the turbo power brush roll looks like

A lot of new experiences

We had a lot of fun and a lot of great experiences.

I tried grilled bacon and Vanilla Malted Milkshakes for the first time. Meeting Bill was great, another great, knowledgeable personality whom hopefully will now appear at more MiniMeets. Trying Bill's Hoover Celebrity II Elite was so much fun as my parents had this vacuum when I was growing up. I never got a chance to ever run that machine with a power nozzle years ago.

I have just started a new position, which I am very excited for. Despite my hobby/ knowledge/ passion towards vacuums, I never saw myself selling a cleaning appliance. However, my years of providing household services as a way to help families with chores around the house and also restaurant management have proved as very fulfilling positions to me. I have always been one to seek in helping others. Working in restaurants, I knew I was helping to ensure that our guests were provided with a high quality, dining experience with the best customer experience. The result is providing tired, stressed out, starving individuals, with a wonderful dining experience and hopefully a few drinks, they leave as full bellied, glowing individuals that feel more relaxed and are in awe from the delicious food and fact they didn't have to do any cooking or cleaning up themselves. Providing household services is quite fulfilling to transform a dirty house, overgrown lawn, and other needs into a clean, presentable, healthy groomed environment ready to entertain or just relax in.

Working for a high quality brand like FilterQueen we know we are providing a durable, well built, USA manufactured unit that maintains strong air flow and uses advanced filtration technology to return the cleanest possible air back into the room. As recommended in training, I am running the Defender air cleaner in my bedroom tonight before going to bed. The unit has been running for a little over an hour and the room just feels amazing. Crisp, clean, lighter, almost fluffier feeling air that's been scrubbed of pollutants and toxins that are brought in on a daily basis from variety of sources from car emissions, dust, pet dander, cooking odors, cleaning chemicals, viruses, molds, bacteria and I can keep on going. Tomorrow night I am looking to run the Filter Queen Majestic in my bedroom to see how much deep down dirt we remove with that. I have a different unit now than what I brought to Johns, and after thoroughly cleaning the unit I ran at Johns, I found dirt on the secondary motor filter-- most likely due to the high plaster laden dust and other construction dirt found on the hallway rug that John was actually thinking of replacing as he knew it was going to be in awful condition.

The Majestic and Defender are both great units. Users will benefit from the healthy 99.98% filtration that blows HEPA filter equipped units into far substandard category. The Defender offers a life time warranty with brushless motor and top speed utilizes less than 1 Amp of electricity, thereby costing just pennies a day to run. The current Majestic has far greater Air Flow than the red Majestic Triple Crown model that I had tried years ago. The new powerhead utilizes a geared belt with motor protection system that is much more powerful and consistent in power compared to its predecessor.

It was great to see everyone again. Good luck and stay healthy to all!
