Can anyone recommend someone in the San Francisco Bay area who services and perhaps even sells used Kirby vacuums? I was thinking of getting one on eBay, but will want to have it fully serviced if I do, i.e., motor tested, professionally cleaned, new brushroller installed etc...

Thanks, Mike

Hey Mike -

You and I need to talk one day. I lived in the Bay Area my whole life ('til 1994). There is a great vacuum shop (at least there WAS) on Irving St (out near UC Med Ctr) called F and H Vacuum. A young Greek Guy ran it for his family. The shop had been in business since the 40s, I think. It's on Irving between approx. 10th and 11th Ave. I hope it's still there. I don;t know if George works on Kirbys, but it might be worth a trip over to see if the shop is still open. He's a great guy. Tell him John Lucia sent you - I wonder if he'll remember me? I went there for many years. Anyway, good luck. Other than that place, I can;t recall if there are other places that service Kirby. Possibly out in the Daly City area - there used to be a place on Mission St in Daly City, just a few blocks from where Colma starts. Not too far from the BART station. I think it was on a corner. Small place. Good luck. Let me know how it goes. You can e-mail me at [email protected]

Hey John...

We should talk. Funny... I haven't been to F and H Vacuum. Not sure why I passed it by... I purchased both of my Mieles from Sunset Sewing & Vacuum Center, which is about 4 blocks from F and H Vacuum (and about a mile from where I live, very close to UCSF Medical Center). They have a great selection of Mieles (they're a Diamond dealer.) I'll also have to check out the other vacuum shop you mentioned on Mission. Thanks for the suggestions.

I purchased a Elux diamond jubilee a few years back at f&h on irving. Great little place. I remember he had a brand new late 60's yellow convertable that I am pretty sure was new old stock. There is a pretty good kirby shop in san mateo that I have gone to a few times. He quoted me $100.00 to completely polish my classic III and make look new again - didn't think that was to bad of a deal. Kirby of San Francisco is actually in burlingame and I didn't think they were as friendly as San Mateo. The Place That Sells Sewing Machines in Daly City the last time I was there had gone pretty much to catering to miele riccar simplicity.

Hey Rob...

I'm looking forward to meeting you. We'll have to set aside a day to make the rounds and check out all these shops. I'm anxious to check out F&H, especially since it's so close and I'm hearing so many good things about them. Maybe I'll check them out this afternoon.

BTW, it's well above 80 degrees at my place, so it must be really hot in the Financial District today.

Mike
