Hey folks. I picked this one up the other day. This is the last of the Powerhouse style cleaners, before it was replaced by the more modern yet lesser performing floating head style cleaners.

As far as I can tell, this was launched in around 2002. There was an earlier version in the same colour scheme, but that was 1100w. It originally retailed as a fairly mid-range cleaner, but by the end of it's run in 2005, it became a budget cleaner. They were very popular, but due to their long run as a budget vac, I think they were used and abused and mostly thrown out. Certainly the ones I knew of were bought because the buyer needed a cheap vac pretty quick.

Having said that, it's a pretty sturdy and relatively decent vacuum. It's certainly not a patch on the earlier models and no where near as sturdy but for the price, it was a pretty good vac. The stretch hose is brilliant, it's nice and quiet and it grooms the pile well.

Here is the pic when I first got it. It was covered in paint, full of dust and the hose was blocked up with (wait for it) a crisp packet.

the tools. It's missing the upholstery tool, but this was common as the upholstery tool never clipped it, it just sat in a little grove behind the hose. It has strange tool storage - the extension tube sits behind the hose and as said, the upholstery tool doesn't clip in.

Just for into, this was the style of cleaner that replaced it. I'm not sure on the model numbers on these - they were very short lived and I don't think sold very well. NB: this pic is not mine

Ugly they may be, and with a silly arrangement for the hose, but the bagged version of these cleaners really did clean up. The roller brush was very stiff and I am sure there was a beating action. They were cheap and good for the price. Also they moved more easily than any other Hitachi upright before it. I sold my shop in 2003 and had done servicing on a couple of these cleaners before I did so. I seem to remember Argos having them in 2002, the store I used to go to had cleaners on display and they stocked a black bagged version on the shelves.

No, I didn't mean the model Chris bought was ugly, far from it, I meant the successor of that and the bagless one were ugly.

Completely forgot to mention, the CV975 is something of a celebrity. It's been used on numerous TV sets, was seen being used in cult british horror flick "Long Time Dead" and, probably it's biggest appearances, belonged to Bridget Jones.

Sorry let me re-write that comment. It would have been 1100watts in that light grey colour. I see you say there was also an 1100watt in the colour you have there.

Ha ha, I love that advert! It's about the only one that doesn't make me want to throw something at the television set.
