Found this at a rummage sale this weekend. Couldn't pass it up even though I had just acquired my Penncrest Convertible (posted in a previous thread). It was a steal at $5 & is in really good condition. Cleaned her up & put in a fresh bag & belt & she's as good as new.

brian you have a very unique yet common 1980s convertible....introduced in early 1984 it originally had a two position height adjuster and bottom fill bag....1985 hoover added the 4 position height adjuster ...1986 hoover gave it a top fill bag a true evolution in one model ..you must have a 1984-85 edition.....this model was right up there with the u4119....not out as long but every national retailer sold this model....with the u4363 opening the line then was around for the launch of the 1988 elite line with the u4455 and u4463 then this u4401-900 with tools in most discounters and catalog showrooms it ran until the very late 1980s

John, that is a bit of fun history! I had no idea that Hoover made that many changes in one model. You are right, mine must be an '85. It has the 4-position height adjustment & bottom-fill bag. I thought it looked like it might have a type A bag when I first spied it,but it's good ol type C.

I also to look at pics of the other models you mentioned. The U4363 was the model that my mom & grandma both had long ago. Theirs were earlier models though I think. I believe my grandmother purchased them both at the end of the 70's or very early 80's. I was remembering the color of their's to be this shade of blue, but it may have actually been more turquoise for the hood & bag color.

brian the u4363 was introduced in the 1984 line up....earlier and similar blue versions of the unit but with 4 position metal pedal height adjusters were 1981 s u4171 robins egg blue with matching blue bag

John, that would have to be the one! I have a pic of one that I found sometime ago online. It's a grungy one. I hope to run into this one to add to my collection someday.

I have a preference to metal based convertibles however a few plastic based models have crept into my collection. For instance, I have three green Decade 80's, and a handful of other ones, guess I just can't play favorites very well!
