Annual visit to North Canton

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Well, I arrived safely last night.

Today began with a nice visit to Morrison's Vacuum Shop. Then, to Restore and another thrift shop. I scooped up some nice Genuine Hoover bags and belts, for next to nothing. I also picked up a CaddyVac... in desperate need of some care, which it got, tonight...good as new! I also had my 67 Convertible all greased up, returned to it's "new" standards.
Onto the Pike residence to visit Dick and Joellen. I left there with a nice 'array' of objects d'Hoover: an umbrella, a great Concept 2, (electronic), a Convertible, model 728, a plastic Convertible, and.... a beautiful British U1025 (like BRAND NEW), a plethora of irons, etc...... I also managed to pack into the car some toasters, irons, ornaments.......
DAY ONE. We also enjoyed a beautiful 'garden party', with Miss Jane Turner. We also met Mr. Chuck De Graff, a retired Vice President of engineering. He saw my IBASAIC shirt.... and asked me if I KNEW WHAT IT MEANT????? Silence fell upon North Canton Proper. THEN, he asked me if I "KNEW THE SONG"? Can Martha Stewart BAKE? So, there, in the middle of the street, where three grown men singing "the song"... "All the dirt, all the grit, HOOVER gets it every bit......." He'll never make THAT error again. As they said in "scripture", Evening came, and morning followed...the FIRST day". Photos, anyone?

At tonight's "clinic",

a first for Tom and me: A HOOVER belched dust!! When we 'opened the patient up', we discovered WHY.... inside, there was a (are you ready??). A KIRBY BAG!! !! !! !! (I KNOW). Apparently, someone hadn't read page 9 in the Owner's manual...." WHAT TO BUY..... to ENSURE that your Hoover cleaner operates at peak performance, it is imperative that you use only genuine HOOVER filter bags distributed by The Hoover Company" Fear not! After a thorough cleaning, (to quote The Wizard of Oz). "Brush brush here, brush brush there ad a couple of ladi dahs", it's "whole', once again.
See? It pays to read.

Today was a myriad of garage sales fleamarkets
s estate sales etc. We scored massive loads of vintage bags sent tablets etc. Tonight after dinner we venture down to Maple Street. We inspected the building and it’s progress or lack there of. We took new photos as usual. Here I am with my brother from another mother! We are dressed like Joan Crawford and Christina.

On this trip, I met

Chuck De Graff, Vice President of engineering, and Mary Rose Davis, retired administrative assistant.
Yes, TTI is moving everything to TN.................. so, everything in Glenwillow is going to disappear. AS of right now, everything is going to Tennessee........... I HOPE they take EVERYTHING. A gray rain fell upon Glenwillow..in more ways than one.
It was nice to walk inside the building again, however.
Tomorrow, we're off to visit "Vickie", who worked on a lot of lines, in particular, the CONVERTIBLE. It will be WILD talking to her, I'm sure.
Later tomorrow, I'm off to Pennsylvania.

Nice!

That Portable looks just like the one my in-laws have (or had).
Since they hadn't used it in many years, I was hoping to take it off their hands.
But, I may have been too late.
I have my turquoisey, thrift store Portable now anyway.
I just hate the thought that they may have thrown away a perfectly good Hoover.

Well, I got home at exactly 8:00 p.m.

I left there at 2:30. It rained only twice, 5 minutes each time. Everything is in the house now... YIKES !!!
Many thanks, again, to Tom, Heather, Glenn, and the entire rest of the North Canton gang.
It was wonderful, as usual.
I've gotten some "things" to perhaps use as prizes, giveaways, raffle items for the convention that (might be held here in Scranton) at a later date.
Hope you all enjoyed the photo by photo schedule of events.
John
