Oh Joy! Found it on Kijiji. After an exchange of emails the seller is dropping it off at my house this afternoon.

I immediately identified it as the Version 1 bumperless 1957-63 Model ZB86, which I did not have; I do have the 1963-67 version 2 which does differ in some aspects other than the bumpers. It looks to be in superb cosmetic condition other than the replacement hose but it's a solid vinyl 'universal fit' hose that will serve admirably for any number of vacuum brands. Besides, I have 7 red woven Lux ones already.

It joins the ZB83, ZB86 V2 and ZB88 V1 & V2 to complete my Red Electrolux lineup.

Once it's here I'll feel compelled to photo-op a chorusline shot of the Red 80s.

This is what Fred dropped off exactly as advertised. Amazingly scratch and dent free, perfect red cord, plug and stopper bulb. Runs as quiet & hushed as you'd expect with any Canadian Lux.

Yes, it was Fred's Mother's vacuum he brought home from Mom's house, where it lived its life in a hall closet until she passed to her Heavenly Reward. He has not used it since, his wife prefers the Dyson and so it had to go. It's been on Kijiji since Feb14 with no offers and he was about to dump it when I called. Best $15 I spent this week.

Six 'waste conveying conduits' :-), 4 bags of Lux bags and 2 packs of Hoover J bags. I asked, the Hoover is long gone.

Before Fred arrived at noon I had to heave very heavy snow boulders from the driveway from the overnight plow. Fred arrived while I was backing the car out. My back is decidedly unhappy but I had to get out to get my papers and some banking. When I got home after lunch I went straight to the couch for relaxation therapy.

But the Spa was calling, didn't need much more than a dusting and a Mr Clean eraser once-over.

Love the supple vinyl hose - it is 96" long, which should be the minimum for any canister vacuum, imho.

Back to the new 86.

Two types of Lux 'hollow rods for debris collection', early ones used on the Loaf Electroluxes, with friction dimple indents between the slots and the later slot-only type. I've never come across aluminum Lux 'dirt channeling pipes' in Canada.

Great find Dave!

What a coincidence! I just finished cleaning up from a re-upholstery project with my V2 86. I have not seen any V1's locally, perhaps due to the local economy of the period during which they were sold. I'm not sure that I'd want a bumper-less unit as an everyday driver. When the phone rings, or you trip over the cat, the next thing you know the hose gets tugged and that red paint is headed straight for the blonde leg of a piece of Heywood-Wakefield! Congratulations on completing your lineup.

Bonus surprise!

But wait, there's more...

When I opened the bag door this is what came out.

Boy-o-boy, a brand new never used cloth dustbag with intact rubber gasket ring. Tucked inside that were these bonus prizes and ephemera ephemera. 'Lectrolux Mama must have had a loaf before she got this 86.

Two brand new in the glassine package motor filters for a Loaf.
Two brand new in the saran package 80 series filters.
The Bill Of Sale is dated March 5 1963, only 10 years and 3 days off my birthdate. :-)

The invoice is for one package of Wrappers and Filters @ $3.95 + .24 tax.

Fred put the bags, tools, wands and hose on this Awfully Gay Hawaii totebag - mine to keep. LUV IT!!!

Dave - awfully gay myself.

That's purty, Zach.
And I see you have the wonderful BX-10 triple pad polisher, too. Aren't they great? Yours appears to be trimmed in brown rubber with a motor applique of brown tweed, the same scheme that is on the 1953-56 ZB57 'Loaf'.
I have the all chrome one and the red one with the solution tank for Shampooing.

ya iam still looking for the red one and I also would like to find one for the z89 and maybe a few others.

Hey Dave:

LOL - couldnt resist popping in with this bit. The Brown and tan floor polisher (to match the Z57) was a model BX5 and its predacessor, the purplish black and grey machine that was out with the ZB55 was the model BA5.

Doug

Time for me to chime in! Nice to see such beautiful Montreal-Made vacuum cleaners - so proud of my home-town!!!!

Now, I will have to memorize this: "hollow waste-conveying dirt-channelling pipe conduits for debris collection"!!!!!

:-)

Doug, it is wonderful the wealth of information you have at your fingertips. I love it!

Hey Andrew, Electrolux Canada must have dominated the vacuum market in Newfoundland and being essentially an offshore island they had a captive audience. Leads me to wonder what brand was most popular in PEI and Nova Scotia? There is or was a Mom & Pop shop in St Johns that used to regularly offer all models of vintage Electrolux sets on eBay and I was always amazed at the inventory as well as the skyhigh prices for refurbs. Haven't heard from them in over a year, though. :-(.

Finding vintage vacuums boils down to being in the right place at the right time, abetted by active search forays armed with 'The Twingle'.

Mike, I really lucked out with this 86 - there's barely any scuff evidence along the sides like one usually finds on the bumper models. Yet the dusting brush & floor tool clearly show it was used well and often. The Lady took care of her things. The only real wear is on the motor end, probably from being stored on it's butt end in the closet.

Dave

Brian, glad someone appreciated my Thesaurused rhapsodizing about Wands. Since I regularly read and review all 3 Forums and Threads I just assume everyone does the same cross-referencing...
