Airflow question

Hey
I have a few questions. I made a conversion kit for 505 to d80. It uses sentria 2 f type adapter and bag. I made a f and g bag also. I want to run 5 tests.
My bag conversion
F and g bag
Shake out bag
No bag straight exhaust
Bag right on exhaust
I want to show air flow difference between all of the above. Would I hook directly to fan using hose adaptor would I use a hose 7 feet long or nozzle airflow box or all the above.
I have a Baird meter and a anamomter. I have an airflow box but no particle tester.
Advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

IMO

it's best to measure it's power at the nozzle and at the hose end where you actually use it's power vs fancase testing, although it is interesting to see how it drops. off.

Thanks for the info.  I'll test a few vacs.  I'll also use voltage meter test power output.  See if bags put extra strain on motor.

In my humble opinion.
You would be doing this just for fun. The airflow difference between all that will be minimum.
I would avoid using the Baird meter for air flow test as it's more of a sales device.
I would get yourself a working water lift gauge. That is the best way of measuring vacuum Motors performance.


As far as where to put it . If you have an extra Kirby hose end hanging around I would use that .Or use the hose in a straight line.

Be interested to see what you find.

Hey

I have an anamomter measuring airflow.  I can't think of name but voltage meter and reads all electrical so if it is using more power meter will detect.  It is for fun but to show hepa bag assembelies I have made are more effeciene than f and g setup and shakeout set up.


I only have 2 vacuums I'll be testing my 560 and my tradition.   I have not got bearing plate off of classic to test it.  The screws are not coming off and I have tried everything and don't want to deal with removing screws out unless they come out one last attempt but other wise I will test another day.


Hopefully results soon.

Test

Okay ivouI couldn't find my anamomter of course.  I used k meter and Baird meter.  The results are conclusive even using Baird meter.


I used my tradition and 562 sanatronic.  They both have fresh bearings carbon brushes amodel fans are top condition.


I used my anamomter on before.  The cfm for tradition was 127 128 5 shy of my sentria.  I got 117 on 562.  Those were taken right after tune ups.  


Tradition voltage was same for all tests except half full shakeout bag and f and g bag.  It was 5.5 amps all tests except 2 mentioned.  5.65 for f and g and 5.7 for half full shake out.  


Empty shakeout 10 plus on Baird meter and felt like highest of all.


Empty shakeout 10 plus


Half full shakeout 7.5


F and g 7


Just Kirby bag on exhaust 9.75


Hepa conversion 10


Nothing 10 


562


Empty 10


Half full 7


F and g 6


Bag 9.5


No bag 9.5


Hepa 9.75


So empty shakeout was best numbers.  F and g on 562 biggest drop.  Half bag 22% difference.  Hepa conversion didn't restrict motor.  The empty shakeout didn't either.  


So f and g wears out motors faster than shakeout.  If you use shake out empty often.  Hepa bag used was a quarter full.  I don't think it would mmma a difference if it was empty it doesn't restrict air.  


In a couple weeks I'll have better numbers with quite a few different vacuums.  


I just wanted to do this preliminary test.


It actually was a bit of work just testing airflow and amps.  Having anamomter would be easier to use than Baird meter.

Hey

I will on vacation now. That's the reason no anamomter.
I found it right before I left.
I'm back Friday can test royal 817 with type b bag setup and f and g bag.
If I could get older emtor on sentria I could do shakeout bag but the emtor has fill tube built in. I have already replaced tube assembly to sentria 2 type so not messing it up.
I have my classic it's close to being tested and my d80 I just need to put switch on and fan and it's ready.
But tests in future will use anamomter and voltage tester for precise measurements that could be put in spreadsheet.
Well this weekend hopefully more.
