Cage

I"m going to guess that somebody added the cage on as a clever way to get wheels on the machine. The model 77 didn't have wheels like the later AirWays did, just runners. Here is my 77 without any customized features.

AirWay

As above the 77 was the last with no wheels.I have seen 1 of these and was told it was commercial caddy to add wheels and have place for hose, wand and att storage. The wheels had red centers. There was also a little known and rare household wheel kit that was smaller and bolted to runners.

This certainly is a somewhat over-engineered caddy but it does exhibit all the signs of being for a large industrial setting where you want to take every accessory - as well as towels. rags, mops and whatever Maintenance had to have at hand - with you around the office and factory floor, perhaps even for Hotel/Motel use (?).

This is the smaller more domestically intended tricycle caddy more commonly seen and occasionally shows up on ebay.

The paint jobs and red wheels would indicate these were both extra cost options made for the Air-Way from the factory.

a Third?!

The one Dave shows above I have never seen.It is sort of in between the 'commercial' and 'household' versions that I was aware of.Could this be Canadian only?

I have one!!!

That is a genuine Air Way accessory, I will try to dig it out and post a picture.

optional AirWay wheels

The household wheels I have seen(rarely)were large, clear plastic wheels(1 front,2 rear)with clips for wands and folded metal holder for hose that could hold attachacaddy using screw at bottom. As with many things if I can find the right box on the right shelf I can show.

Air-Way Accessory

Jimmy,
In the area I grew up, Air-Way was very common and everyone had them. The way I remember was the Air-Way man did not offer that as an option when the 77 first came out but later in the model run they were offering it as an add-on piece. This would have been closer to 1957.
We had one of vac club magazines which showed a Consumer Reports and pictures of an Air-Way77 using this option.
My parents had many friends who owned the 77 Sanitizor. They used it "as a way to get in the door" as an add on if you already owned the 77 Air-Way.
Of course my parents were not even going to look at the new 77 as they already had a 66 Air-Way.
I do remember the Air-Way man talking about the NEW Quick-Up rug tool. He still did not get in our house. I was such a disapointed little kid!
