Hi,

Someone mentioned Aerus coming out with a new line in the spring. Does anyone have any information on this.

Thanks

Bud

aerus new models

Funny you should bring that up. I just called Electrolux today to check and see if they had a certain replacement hose in stock. I was in the store about 6 weeks ago and they showed me a new less expensive model. They are going to update the Guardian and remove the filter that fits on top. As of yesterday the new machines were not in the store.

The color is changing to an off white from the light bluey white, the guardian supposedly will now have an integrated hepa filter. The guardian supposedly will be unveiled when Aerus has their convention either in June/July in Montreal??

I'm not much interested in Aerus, I admit, but as the successor to classic Electrolux, I wish they'd go back to the old style hose handles and wands.

Lux old style hose handles and wands

Bob,

Aerus still has the old style hose handles and wands, it comes as standard equipment on their "Classic" canister.

Hose handles

All but the guardian will take the older style wands and hose. You would have to buy a power nozzle to fit them as well. I did this with the SR 6500 and it works great.

Didn't the previous Epic, the blue model with white trim, start out with the traditional pistol grip hose handle and the sheath and steel wand? My memory is vague, but I believe I tried to connect the hose from my Diplomat to my Epic 6500 and it wouldn't fit (or vice-versa). The connections were slightly different on the machine ends (at least the hoses I have).

I agree about going back to the older style hose handle and it would be nice if they went back to the telescopic wand also. The newer tubes are just too big and clumsy to use and the pump style hose handle is a pain in the ass when doing above the floor cleaning.

Gary

For some reason, when I use the Epic 6500, it feels like I'm holding the handle of an upright. Presumably, they changed the handle to make it more "user-friendly", or perhaps its something to do with ergonomics, but as you said, Gary, its not good for above-floor cleaning. I also find that its not as easy to disconnect the handle from the wand.

Forgot to praise the telescopic wand

Definitely one of the best things about the older Electroluxes. It's too bad they never made one that could extend to different lengths (or did they?)

You guys are right about the first blue canister having the older style wands, the Epic 6000. Yes, you could take the hose from the newer style wands (epic 6500, lux 7000, legacy etc) and use it in an older machine. But, But, the later model newer style wands, and even the hoses for the older style wands, now have a v shaped notch cut in the machine end. If you take an older style braided hose, it will not fit in the newer units (although they make look identical) because of this notch. Why the notch, I don't know, I think it might be because of a polarity issue. If you look at all the later model units, the power cord is polarized, whereas the older units weren't. Just a thought.

Another question about Lux uprights

Does anyone remember a few years ago when Electrolux issued a recall for some of the uprights with the cord coming out of the handle? An aunt of mine had a Genesis with the cord coming out of the back of the machine, but if I recall rightly, she replaced hers with an Epic 6500 (the one I have now). I can't remember if she replaced it herself, or if the company did it for her, so does anyone happen to know if the recall was only for the machines with the cord coming out of the handle?

Notches!

That was the difference...that little v-shaped notch. Maybe it does have something to do with polarity.

Another item to add to the wish list...the 4-notch green telescopic wand!

New machines and recall!

Any Electrolux Upright with the "Pony tail" style handle was recalled. That is the handle with the cord coming right out of the end of handle itself. Take it to your local Aerus dealer and they will replace the handle free of charge. The new uprights are just a different color. Besides the Guardian the only changes to the other machines is the color. Can't wait to see the new Guardian!

Ah, so I daresay my aunt just traded her Genesis in, in that case.

I suppose they must be making the boxy HEPA filter flat if its going to be integrated. I always thought it looked strange sticking out of the top of the Guardian.

On the subject of new/old hoses, here's one I've seen on Ebay more than a few times; it seems to be a bit of a "compromise".
