Aerus deals won't quote price over phone?

I spent some time today calling around to Aerus dealers within a reasonable driving distance to get prices on the Lux Legacy, and not one dealer would quote a price over the phone without either coming to my house (not gonna happen, I have 4 large dogs and the alpha is protective of his family, makes home sales kinda tough, thankfully) or me driving out to them.

Is this typical? I work in industrial sales, and would have no customers if I refused to quote over the phone.

It's just brand protection, to keep rival dealers from posing as homeowners using VOIP spoof numbers or other types of telephone trickery to catfish their prices and undercut them. Same reason why some stores will send out an entire posse of mall cops to take you to mall jail for taking photos of things in stores. The retail market is very competitive today and businesses get very paranoid.

Or, they hate window shoppers. I mean, I do. But whereas me as a mechanic, I'm able to undercut most of the competition, A, they don't have much, if any, competition. And B, their prices are high (compared to walmart vacs) and because they are not competitive, rather than lose your business by giving you the high price over the phone, they force you to come in and see the vacs in person, so you can get an idea what you're speending your hard earned money on.

I believe it's called "getting your foot in the door." lel

I find that to be an out dated way to conduct business in 2018. Can anyone enlighten me as to what I might expect to pay in New England for a new one? There is also a large multi state fair coming up next month (the Big E, or eastern states exposition)and they usually have an aerus dealer there, I might look to see what kind of deal I can get there too.

Hey Mike

I can't help, because I bought all of my Electroluxes used.
Or, picked them up on the curb for free!
But I do love the Lux Legacy. Three of mine are that same style, but the older version.
And my mom has the Legacy. But she's had it for a long time now. No idea how much she paid for it, and I'm sure they cost more now.

It's funny. As much as I enjoy their products, I always avoid that Aerus display at the fair because I don't want to deal with a sales pitch.
Sometimes, I don't even go in the Better Living Center at all.
The wife likes to though. So, when I have no choice, I just try to avoid making eye contact with salespeople.
Good luck though. If you don't already own an Aerus/Electrolux, I highly recommend it!
I love my Epic 6500!
Or, probably slightly cheaper than the Legacy, I think they offer the Classic; which I believe is the new version of my Ambassador III.
Also a fine machine!

Barry
