I’m a diy’er who recently replaced the cord winder in this Aerus 5000. (I have no idea if that’s related to this problem)

Recently the overheat light and breaker was tripped. I changed the filters and the bag, in case there was a clog. After the motor cooled down, it did work, and it created some suction, but not enough to have anything left at the end of the hose and tubes….

Anything I can do, or does it need a new motor?

(The motor always was VERY loud, but I assumed that was becasue it’s plastic.)

THanks for any help.

Beatrice

The motor works but doesn’t suck well enough. Can these motors be damaged so the they have diminished power or must something else be at issue — such as whatever made it overheat in the first place?

Aerus

Did the motor sound the same and have better suction before changing cordwinder?Could parts be out of place or rubber seal be missing after reassembly?Everything must fit like a jigsaw puzzle. These were meant to be worked on upside down with bottom half with wheels being removed.Suction should be tested with new bag, first at end of vac, then at end of hose.To find clog round object(such as marble)and not flat object(such as coin)should be dropped through hose.

THanks for your response, rugsucker. I found reassembling it to be very difficult... so I wondered the same thing. But it did work after reassembly and it's the overheating event that marks when it stopped working. Maybe something I did reassembling caused that?

Can anyone give me ideas about what I might have done on reassembly that would explain overheating and then the motor having little suck when it returns? I will take it back apart but would love to know where to look. Reassembling it seemed like a nightmare... but I will try to be more systematic this time.

Check a few things.

Make sure the motor is actually spinning the fans. The nut may have come loose.

Next you would want to make sure all parts between the bag compartment and fan housing are sealed together. If they are not a suction leak would occur. Someone gave me a 1453 model recently that had been disassembled and the person who put it back together lost and didn’t put in the gasket between the bag compartment and the fan housing and it ran but didn’t suck much at all. Once I added in the gasket all was well in it’s world again. The motor on those plastic models can be mounted in two different slots apparently, so you may have dropped it back into the wrong one perhaps.
