Advice, anyone?

So next year I plan to purchase a plastic-body Electrolux canister (either a Diplomat, or Epic 6000. anything with bag sensor and old style wands). What model would be good to find? I also want to know if its worth getting the original Hoover Windtunnel

My two favorites are ...

<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">... the Epic 6500SR and the Hi-Tech 2100.  Both are really good plastic body machines: if you're planning to add one to your collection, you can't go wrong with either one of these.  I have the Epic 6500SR myself, but have owned a 2100 previously and hope to get another one sometime in the future.</span>


 


<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">About adding an original Windtunnel to your collection, I would encourage it!  They were fine, well-built machines that seem to be fairly easy to get parts for -- so they not only make good collectibles but they also make good daily drivers.  I have one of the early self-propelled models (the green ones) in my collection: can't remember what model it is, off the top of my head, but it's a very nice one that I managed to get in one of the local thrift stores!</span>

I remember sending you a text that I sold both my Electrolux Epic 6000SR and Epic 6500SR to Wayne, he still has them for sale. He said you sent him an email then he never heard anything from you after that.

I don't have any Electrolux machines. My issue with them is when they flip over onto their side when being pulled around a room rather than rolling on wheels and carrying them they end up being horizontal to floor rather than vertical so I found it more difficult. I know they run quiet and have reasonable suction.

Windtunnel uprights are nice. The 13" and 15" both work good. One issue is that when using the hose on the uprights, it pulls the entire machine toward you from the sucking power and it being a stretch hose. They do make a hose extension and that might work well.
Also the Windtunnel canisters are very nice!! I think my favorite is the S3639 Windtunnel Plus canister. Love color and I think they tweaked something in it from the original green S3630.

I have never had that happen with any of my Lux machines I have had, Miele?? Oh gosh yes, every time! On it's side or upside down! Hate to see it scratched like that too.

I never heard back from Wayne, and ive learned not to bother people repeatably. Im still in the market for an Epic6000, but my problem is that i cant purchase until 2016 as lawn mowing has winded down so i have little income.

The plastic canisters seem durable, but only my L seems to fall over. Im currently buying a model Diamond jubilee, and a G so these are on my list for once i get these, and some money ready
My only issue with the Windtunnel is i hear they burn up belts, but the hose issue doesnt bug me as i use canisters for hose work

We had a green WindTunnel Ultra Self-Propelled and the belts were fine. We used it in my parents' condo which had 90% plush carpeting and the belts never broke. I replaced the wide belt once every two years just as preventative maintenance. Fantastic deep carpet cleaner and a breeze to use on carpets because of the self-propulsion system!

The ONLY Electrolux I have EVER had fall over on it's side is the early Model E (without the stabilizing foot). NONE of my other Electrolux models (XI, XII, XXX, LX, LXI, AE, AF, G, L, S, 1205, Golden J, Olympia, Diamond J, 2100, Classic) have EVER fallen over on their side.

Mine fell since i had the pigtail plugged in and the cord wrapped up when i pulled it behind me. Happens so often

I'm a 'metal-head'...

I just can't get excited about any plastic vacuum cleaners. Mo' metal's mo' betta, as far as I'm concerned.

For what it's worth, neither of my Electrolux metal canisters--1205 and Super J--have ever flipped on me except occasionally when I would use the 1205 to vacuum the steps in the townhouse I used to live in. If I started from the top down and I tried to get one step too many before moving the canister down a few steps, it might take a tumble, but that was my fault and not the machine's. I learned very quickly it was better to work from the bottom upwards and move the machine after every third step. But now I live in a one-story ranch house so that's a non-issue.

All that said, I think an Electrolux canister is an ideal machine for step work because of the canister's shape. It sits perfectly on a normal sized stair tread with no overhang. That was the one thing I didn't like about the other metal canister I once had, an orange Eureka Princess.

Maybe your Electrolux is just tired and needs a rest, that's why it's laying on it's side.

When you can get it to roll over and do tricks and fetch then you've got something.
