A very nice model 33

I picked up this very nice model 33 a few weeks ago and gave it a good going through before giving it to my parents for Christmas yesterday. They have a model 31 that they purchased new in 1975, but as they're getting on in years, carrying it up and down the stairs is becoming problematic. So now the new model 33 with its power nozzle can stay upstairs where most of the carpet is anyways. And since the model 31 has an outlet for a power nozzle, if they need to clean the carpets downstairs all they need to carry up and down the stairs is the power nozzle and hose.

The power nozzle had a great many bumps and scrapes from use, but it cleaned up really well.

Here's a better view of the canister. It showed little evidence of use and really cleaned up well. There was one thing about it that was a bit odd though. I found a hard white scented pellet about an inch in diameter and about a half inch thick under the cap at the top of the motor housing. I guess as the air flowed through the chamber the pellet would rattle around and release scented powder into the air. This powder had loaded up the caps felt pad and made it as hard as a rock. I removed the felt and washed it out by hand in the sink, ultimately getting a great deal of this stuff out of it, but I can still smell it in the air when I run the machine. Thankfully the smell isn't bad, but I'm looking forward to the day when it's all blown out.

Still, even with this minor issue this machine is in excellent condition for its age and I'm really glad I was able to get it.

WOW! Very nice model 33,,even has the original hoses,,that is awsome. Great job cleaning it up too! Have always loved how quiet these FQs are. Back in the early 1970s A neighbor lady had one of these,,i dont think it had the PN socket tho,,so maybe was a Model 31? This would have been 1971, 72.

Finding a machine that still had its original hoses(and in excellent shape) was quite a stroke of luck. Especially since I'm not really happy with the quality of the aftermarket hoses, or the fact that they can't be found with the proper colored end fittings to match a model 33 or model 31.

As for the lack of power nozzle outlet on your neighbors machine, another member here recently explained that model 31's and model 33's were in production simultaneously for a while, and that both machines could be ordered with or without any number of overlapping features, which makes identifying model numbers by feature next to impossible. The fact that you remember the year being 71 or 72 is probably more useful in identifying the machine as a model 31, since I don't think model 33's were around yet then. But I could be wrong about that.

Thank you!, very good to know. I have fond memories of that neighbor's model 31,,it was the first time i had ever seen or used a Filter Queen,,and remember being facinated with all of its attachments, how they locked on, were air tight, and by how quiet the machine was.
Later, in around 1976, a different neighbor bought a new FQ at a home show, i dont know what the model number was, but it would have been whatever model was new in 1976. I remember it wasnt as quiet as the model 31 was, but still very impressive and was the copper/beige color.
They didnt buy the PN or the PN hose, but i remember the machine did have the PN socket and the cord reel. These neighbors were friends of my folks, and they knew i was interested in vacuums. They had thought about adding the PN and hose to the FQ , after they got wall to wall carpet a few yrs later, but when the time came, they just bought a Hoover Convertible instead. I remember being disapointed!
Never got to even see a FQ with a PN until a few yrs later,,when another neighbor moved in that had one.

I wish I could make the video you requested, but to be honest I wouldn't have a clue where to begin. I'm not all that computer savy. I do have a few friends that might be able to talk me through it though, so I'll go ahead and at least ask. Sorry.
