Definitely looks like an interesting idea, they probably dropped the idea cos they'd have to supply power to the indicator in the nozzle, not being the best environment for electrical components, but it could have been a good idea for sure though...

What a cool idea though. Problem would be, as what Mr. Dyson says "As the bag fills the suction dropps off." This would cause the machine to adjust lower and lower putting stress on the belt, until such time you changed the bag.
Royal has the Adjust-o-right that was suseptable to the filling bag. No big deal there you could just gage that your suction was dropping off and time to change. Adjust-o-rites are still really cool.

It is an idea just like
a Sebo with the computer controlled automatic height adjustment. It is something they will one day employ . It keeps the nozzle properly adjusted to all carpets even if they are not level. It will not make the brush lower to cut off airflow nor would it put strain on the belt it would help because most users do not know how to adjust the kirby properly. It is very easy to run power to it it would just connect when you attach the nozzle.

neat! would like to have an indicator like this, but
as was stated before: when vacuum operated it might have serious misreadings (full bag etc. or empty bag but no longer keeping airflow by concrete dust and all that).
I can see only two ways to go:
1. tapping the exhaust air as well (meaning going the Lux/Electrolux way, having several pressure sensors all over).
2. measureing the motor torque (amps increasing/dropping) which seems more appropriate to me (an air stream will be an air stream, no matter what it carries - but as Kirby themselves say: "hear a change of sound (speed that is)" - this must be the point to flash the green light.
Never seen the Sebo system though. Is it different?

I have used the commercial version of this self adjusting feature and do not care for it at all. It can't keep up with uneveness of the floor and they do end up jamming up with lint,threads and dust. I will gladly adjust the height myself. Just another gimic to sell a vacuum. And further over price a machine. besides that something else to go out on the machine.
Kirby will have another situation on thier hands like they did with the G3 tech drive failing over a pin that come loose do to heat or nylon gears that wouldn't hold up. And when they increased the power from 4 amps on the 500 series to 5 amps on the Dual series. Blew out armatures until they figured out that they had to wind the windings tighter and cement them down to keep the machine from self distruction. Bring on those dinosaurs from the 80's (I love my grandmothers vacuum)on back to the begining of vacuuming. Far fewer gadgets to break down.
