About three years back I acquired a Hoover commercial 918 upright vacuum cleaner. Today I acquired a second Hoover commercial, a model 913. I paid $30.00 for it at a yard sale. The motor sounded rough when it was tested by the seller for me, but it ran and I wanted to add it to my upright Hoovers. I put on a new belt and it is much quitter but I'm sure it needs the motor thoroughly serviced. Am I correct in assuming that there may be twenty plus years age difference in these two machines? I notice that this one I got today has the larger cord winding lugs like the model 28 had and also it is a two wire and not a three wire cord. Like the other one it is made in England. Well, having wondered in the past if I would ever find one I now have two Hotel Hoovers! I wanted to share it with the gang. Hope everyone is OK.

Janine,

The 913 was the third in Hoover's line of heavy-duty commercial "iron giant" machines, after models 90 and 91. And I think it's from the early 1960s because of what you said about it coming from the Perivale factory.

I would love to see pictures of your 913, please.

That's good information to know Ben! "Iron Giant" Heh! Heh! That is a good description for it! I'm glad it has those two larger wheels to have thereby rolled it to the car! I think it (and the other one) are the heaviest vacuum cleaners I have ever encountered! That's why we like vintage isn't it? Built like machines should be. When I get a bit more literate with the computer I will put some pictures of these and my other machines on to share. I just got my first printer this year. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a Ludite--I listen to more vinyl than I do binary music sources. But I will put pictures on when I get more proficient with the computer. Thanks for your comments Ben!
