Assistance on this would be very much appreciated...The late model machines appear to have a different rear housing. When the "donut" type cordwinder was offered, did Lux eliminate being able to have an after-filter? I have a early AF that has the same rear housing as the AE and does not have a power nozzle outlet. Later, when Lux upgraded to the new style cordwinder it seems that after-filters were dead. If the customer didn't get the optional cordwinder, did Lux simply put a cord halo on the new (filter-less) rear housing?

Just wondering,
Rick

None of the Model Fs had a rear filter, nor did the S or R. The last models with the rear filter were the E and E-Automatic.

And thereafter, salesmen told people with LXs, Es and E-As to remove the filter because it was no longer necessary due to the new multi-layer bags.

(You couldn't remove the filters in XXXs because the rear cover would not fit tightly, so even those who got the aftermarket paper bag retrofit had to keep using the rear filter.)

Removing the filter does greatly improve performance because air flow is not as restricted. It also makes the vacuum cleaner more noisy. One of my favorite memories is of neighbors and family friends using older Electroluxes with the bare-floor tool: With the AE and earlier, you could barely hear any motor noise at all, because the sound of the suction rushing through the floor nozzle was louder than the motor! It was a very sweet and gentle sound. But with the filter removed, that was no longer the case, and the machines were fairly noisy.

Thanks!!!

I had to take a second look at the machine I have...You're right Charles. It does not have the filter cover. I didn't realize it 'cause I shoved it up in the attic immediately after it arrived!!!I coulda sworn!!!

Thanks again,
Rick

Well, that'll teach you to treat your sweet Electrolux like Sybil. Next thing you'll be shouting at her, "HOLD YOUR WATER! HOLD YOUR WATER!!" as you pound Beethoven dirges on your piano!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
