A Hoover Senior made its way across the pond!

Well everybody, a very special dream machine has finally it's made its way into my collection! This Hoover Senior model 652 from the UK was just recently sold to me by Robert Coonradt. This machine is extremely rare in the US because this was Great Britain's version of the US's Convertible, which is actually larger in size compared to the Senior. I love this machine! Great machine, but I'm curious as to where the identification/rating plate is. It should be visible underneath, near the switch.

US voltage won't be enough to run it, so be careful not to brown the windings out with the lower 110V supply.

Hoover 652

It certainly looks like a very nice machine, but there are a couple of things which don't quite add up. The serial number confirms the machine to truly be a 652, manufactured in around January 1960 - this is also confirmed by the lack of a two speed switch where the hose connects.

But, as far as I am aware the grey colour scheme did not start until January 1962 with the 652A (which had the two speed switch), so this should have been in pink with either a vinyl bag (most likely at this stage) or a cloth bag similar to that used on the Junior 1334.

The other thing that jars with me is that on UK cleaners "The Hoover Cleaner Makes CARPETS Last Longer" - I will have to check out my own 652s when I am back home at the weekend.

I am interested to know in which ways the US cleaner is larger than the UK version.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, it still looks like a lovely cleaner, you should see if you can get a voltage converter so you can actually run it and compare with the US versions

yes while its a nice machine

somthing isnt quite right .the two speed switch being one of them and the carpets last longer being the other.The one in my photo was bought new by my mum around 1962/3 its only ever been used in my mums house and mine and while its bag has been replaced the rest of it is original
