I've seen that model before

came out at the end of 1986, replacing the older style square hood/polished base model U4313
 
These Guardsmans are great machines...Jeff, isn't this the last model to use the die cast base? I think this Guardsman was built in both plastic and metal. I like the look of this machine a lot too. I am sure that it cleans well; one of those timeless designs that actually functions not like the new plastic stuff from China that screams at you while you clean.

I believe so yes...

That may have been the last metal base one. The later model U4505 that I have was on a plastic base until I rebuilt it onto metal
 
I bought a plastic-base version from Phillip at the '07 convention. It's a very nice machine and cleans very well. Mine has a cloth zipper bag and uses type A paper bags, a plastic base machine with a steel-lined fan chamber.

This is snow and ice season around here and the Hoover uprights have a tendency to throw salt and sand from the back of the nozzle, but that's common to most Hoovers on low-pile carpet.
