Fred's Eureka is as complete as can be. Both being Hoovermen through and through Tom was needling Fred that the Eureka was not a Convertible:)

I guess to a Hoover diehard, anything non-Hoover is referred to as a "bojack" and kept separate from the Hoovers.

While I quite like Hoovers as well, I prefer Eurekas equally, and to me, "bojack" simply means something non-original, such as a replacement bag, cord, etc. I've even used the term to describe parts on other appliances, as well as cars...

Austin

Thats exactly right about the term "bojack". Tom was just joking. The same could be said for a die hard Electrolux fan who bought a NIB Royal Pony and one of his co-die hard friends suggesting it was a bojack because it wasn't a Electrolux.

And while we are talking about Eureka Austin :) with your recent big Eureka aquisition, I have had my eye out for Eurekas and boy have i had some good Eureka karma! I have two new uprights and a canister with PN like the one Fred has AND a Commercial Canister which I didn't know Eureka even made! I really like the hum of those older Convertibles and Dial A Naps. BTW, thats what I call them. Is there an official name for Eureka uprights?

Bojack...

To me in everything I have read from the Hoover company, the term Bojack means anything other than a Hoover. Since I have the mindset of a Hoover Guy, then Bojack means just that to me. Like many other words in English, multiple meanings is not uncommon. I quite agree that Bojack can mean non original parts too. So no Fred's Eureka is beautiful. Do not get me wrong...I do not mean Bojack in a negative way. It is just my way of saying the words "not a Hoover". And yes, I was needling Fred just a little so please forgive my comments. I did appologize for them earlier in the thread. I have no bad feelings toward the Eureka Company and their products whatsoever.

Hi Marty,

Wow, that is just great, congratulations! Good Eureka karma for sure! Are the two uprights 1400 series or older? I agree that the sound of a Eureka ranks right up there with the Convertible, with the sound of the beater bar on the rug. I'm also curious to find out if there was ever an official name for the uprights as well. The only thing I've seen on the manuals is the model series. Would certainly make it a lot easier to explain the machine!

Eureka Convertible perhaps? ;-)

*ducking and running HARD*

No sour feelings!

None whatsoever! :-)

I have heard the dual usage for bojack as well... I normally use it for parts, but yes, any non-Hoover could be considered a bojack.

Austin, I'll be ducking and running with you... I've been known to call that style of Eureka a "Convertible" as well... although there is only one true Convertible.

Marty, I kinda like your "Dial A Nap" name.

:-)

Bojack

I've always heard "bojack" describing a non-original and, therefore (presumably), of lower quality. Most of the time I've heard it referring to something like a DVC bag or maybe cheap non-cellulose bags or cones for Air-Ways or Filter Queens, respectively. I would call those stupid nylon red and black checker outer bags that people put on Classic III's so they can use paper bags bojack, as well as the non-swivel fake Electrolux hoses with the ugly grip with the black P/N switch on the wrong side of the handle. I was looking and looking at Fred's Eureka trying to figure out what I had missed that was so obvious to everyone else. Now I understand. However, I probably wouldn't describe that machine with a perjorative; it's a pretty effective cleaner.
