Morning Everyone, we’ll I brought home this Kirby yesterday and need some help, there’s no I’d plate on the bottom so have no idea what this machine is exactly, so hopefully some one might help me ? It runs smooth, no weird noises, handle spring is entact too. Brush roll is real stiff, hard to turn, can you disassemble it to clean inside ? It has the Sami emptor and red replacement bag, any tip on proper cleaning of bad ? Thanks everyone!

Jack,

The brush roll I see is open-ended and, along with the belt lifter and the design of the motor switch, suggests your cleaner is anything between the model 509 (1949-50) and 512 (1952-53). All the original wheels and other trim pieces were replaced with red ones in the 1960s or 1970s.

I'm guessing

I'm guessing that it is a Model 513. Does the handle have a flip down cord hook? I'm thinking Kirby introduced that change with the 513. I'm pretty sure the trip and handle grip had already transitioned to red by then. Others with more knowledge would know for sure.

I used to own two 513s. One had the old 3 amp motor. Later in the production run, Kirby introduced a 4 amp motor. I had that one too. Unfortunately, I gave them both away! There were several changes introduced that year: new motor, trim, and flip down cord hook.

Bill a007kirbyman told me on 505 maybe 508 the screws holding brush in place came stock with same size screws holding in brush assembly. I don't think yours would because 505-512 had brush plate have middle opening hinge. 513 and up had entire nozzle brush plate come off.

Upon receiving the machine I still have no idea what it really is ? No I’d plate on bottom and no rivet holes either ? It has been rebuilt and polished well, also has newer plastic type fan. I believe all the red trimmings and wheels are replacements too. Any I’d help would be appreciated...jack

508 or 510. Im just saying but lines aren't right for 505. Nothing to reference on. On the Armiture usually has a date stamp. I'm saying 508.

I read that the casting was different for these models. What does it feel/look like inside the nozzle for instance? Very rough? Take pics.. The 500 series is a complicated bunch haha.

Gina,

Regarding the nozzle castings for models 505-515, for models 513-515 the brush roll assembly was changed to a non-reversible type (one end is bigger than the other) and the rug plate assembly was changed to go with that.

Pics

The first bunch of my photos Is 505 and 508. 505 has 6 blade metal fan and 508 has 6
10 blade metal fan. The 598 fan would have been 6 blade. Brush role 505 is original has belt cap not belt lifter. The 508 has different sizes screws on each side where the 505 has same size screws on both sides which I believe is correct. Around badge of 508 is gold where 505 is silver. The wheels on 505 all original black and had washers visible behind screws. The 508 original l

Black but no washers.
The top of brush nozzle notice I believe 505 has eased section. The 508 has part number of it but 505 didn't
The underside of 59t And 50i have different texture by exhaust. 510 I'm pretty sure 513 to 515 brush roll which opens ebtirhy. 50t and 508 didn't have sweet aire 510 does took pic of it. Oh I just washed 505 bag hanging up. The 510 has bag from kirby Nike. 505 top bag assembly is different than 508
Just some pics see what yours has in on in.
