No. You don't really want to get your carpets wet all the time. Look at manufacturer recommendations to learn how to care for your carpet. Professional steam cleaning may be recommended once or twice a year as needed. If you need to sanitize the floors regularly, you probably need to use something other than carpeting.

There are vacuums like Lindhaus that make vacuums that can operate as a normal vacuum, but can also be used with "dry cleaning powders" to clean your carpet. Kirby is a versatile vacuum that has an optional shampooer attachment.

There are vacuums like Rainbow, Hyla, Sirena and other water filtration vacuums that may have the capability to also wet clean your rugs. Thermax is another brand that has carpet cleaning capabilities but is super inconvenient to use as a vacuum.

And not just the carpet. You will ruin the underpad, the subfloor, rust out the tack nails, and more.

I would think the upright style cleaners can be used for wet pickup, the question is can the pump be shut off. Water pumps should not be run without water.

The older canister/drum style carpet cleaners (such as Bissell, VAX, Kenmore) mostly could be used for wet or dry vacuuming. I don't believe any are currently available in the US. The last model I knew still available was the Bissell Big Green complete, which was a carpet/upholstery cleaner and wet/dry water filtration vacuum, which was discontinued a year or two ago.

There are steam vacuums that you can use the vacuum function independent of the steam. The one I have is the limatic carbon by TPA Impex out of Italy. The draw back is that you can only use turbo nozzles for carpet. I know they make a model that looks like a rainbow with a power nozzle, but I’m not sure if they make a 110V version for the states. I’ve bought tools from Us Steamvac and the owner has imported some tools for me so I’d check out there website to see if they have anything you might want.

Well I think the diffrence between a steam cleaner and a vacuum cleaner is that,


A steam cleaner steams floors.

A vacuum cleaner sucks the floors.

Adding steam or water vapor to the inside of your home will increase the load on your air conditioner, and in places like Florida that are already quite humid and moldy, encourage even more mold growth.....in your carpet, baseboards, walls, etc.

The last think you want to do with carpet is add any kind of dampness.

Even with dry carpet cleaning, there are still drawbacks with using that method. In fact when you add those dry carpet cleaning powder onto the carpets, they are actually damp until you let it airdry. Otherwise I would recommend just ripping out all of the carpets and replace them with bare floors if you're concerned with water, mold, or stains not coming out of the carpets. But are still some people like me that prefers mostly carpet over barefloors and through the years that I have cleaned carpets with, I found that professional truck mount cleaners in my opinion are the best way to clean carpets with. I actually find it very satisfying as well.

I agree, I love plush carpet with a good quality 1/2" rebond pad or something that doesn't off-gas.


 


The only hard surface flooring I would use in my home would be a sheet vynil in a light color or pattern and only in water suseptible areas like by tubs, toilets, kitchen, laundry and in front of exit doors.  The rest gets carpet.


 


I don't wear shoes in the house, don't do pets, rarely spill anything so I don't have a lot of risks.


 


Rotovac really ups the carpet cleaning.
