4 Canister Finds-- 3 Electrolux and 1 Apex

My father called me this morning and told me he had went to an estate sale and picked up a couple vacs for me. When I got there I was pretty happy to say the least. He told me that he got them all for $15. When I offered to pay him back for them he refused so I got all 4, plus a box of bags and attachments for free!!!
They all run great and after a little cleaning up will be very nice!

What can anyone tell me about this Apex??? Never heard of it before.

Apex..

Apex was a very good product, the one pictured was rated good by consumer reports, I think in 1947 or 48, their real claim to fame came in late 1952 with the introduction of the Strato Cleaner, this was a round canister with a single fan motor that they built, it also had the highest suction of ANY machine built during its production run, 1953 thru 1962 or 63, nothing except the Dual Deluxe Sunbeam introduced in 1958, even came close, the airlow on these was so powerful that it will pull a Baird Air Flow Meter built for Kirby demonstrations, all the way to the back...by comparison, a Compact or Electrolux G will only pull the indicator about halfway...The problem was, they were sold in department stores, and cost in 1953, 100.00, by 1956 they were 150.00, when you could get a GE or Eureka for 69.95 or a Lux for 89.95!! also, most of the older homes did not have wiring adequate for the Stato Cleaner, the first model drew about 10 to 12 amps!!

It was a very popular tank in the vacuum market. It had great tools and was generally very well made. If I can find my advertising brochure for it, I will scan it and put it up on this thread later today or early tomorrow. Congratulations.</span>

If I am remember correctly. The old Apex uprights were made here in Ohio. Cleveland I think. So wondering if any one knows for sure where this "new Tank"
47-on was built? Was it here in Ohio ?? Inquiring minds need to know !

Luxes are in great shape. I have a model AF like the one pictured. It fell over one day and the latch that holds the front cover closed broke off. Anybody have any recommendation as to where I might find a replacement? I realize I will have to replace the whole section. Suggestions???????
P.S. Super that you have family support. They just don't look at you like you are nuts!! Great.

It is a late '47, advertised through most of '48 in a million different ads. I could only find a pamphlet for its predecessor, which was late '45 (kind of a mottled brown color).</span>

Apex Corp,

Made Washers Dryers dishwashers and even refrigerators.."My Grandmothers first one was a 38 Apex", until the late 50s when they were bought by the White sewing machine co, Apex products were always made in Cleveland, the vacuums were continued until 63, I have a fairly good collection of them, all except the Dyno cleaner, one of which is owned by someone here , who knows I want to purchase it badly!! hint hint!
