The lure of Dyson's new machines is too much to resist at the moment.

I bought the new V10 Total Clean today. I managed to get it for £450 instead of £500 as I have a friend who works in the shop I bought it from.

First impressions from using the 20% battery charge the machine came with...

It picks up very well. As well as the last full size Dyson I had - the upright Light Ball.

Suction on setting 1 is more than enough to clean my lightly soiled car on a weekly basis giving me the full 60 minute run time with suction only tools.

Suction setting 2 will be my main use setting for household cleaning and for cleaning my mums more neglected car that often resembles a farm inside.

Max setting gives impressive power however I'll likely rarely use this as my floors will never be soiled enough to require it.

Is it enough to replace a full sized machine? Yes and no. It will keep the floors clean, however if you gave me a REALLY soiled carpet that was long overdue a deep clean I think I'd prefer a corded machine.

Vacuum often - this will be more than enough. Vacuum rarely / when the carpets are crunchy underfoot and you'll want a corded machine.

Run time won't be long enough for me to give the full house a deep clean where I vacuum under furniture etc in every room so I'll still need a full size corded. This is however more than enough for day to day cleaning though and I'll probably only use a corded machine every week or two.

I've previously had a V6 Total Clean and found the bin on this machine awful to empty. Had to constantly poke about inside it to get everything out.

I had a V8 Animal and this was a nice machine.

The V10 takes it to the next level and is a nice upgrade in terms of features, specification and performance.

I find it a little short in height though as I am 6ft 4 tall. They could of maybe added an extra few inches to the length of the pole however this is no major issue.

The machine came very well packed and has a large selection of tools.

Experience with previous models tell me I will rarely use the 'Fluffy' hard floor head and the articulating reach high elbow.

Along with buying the new V10 I am also going to order the newest upright Dyson as the hose setup on it seems very interesting and I love the red coloured hose LOL it is nice to see they have gone back to a metal wand too.

Hopefully this link to a video of the new upright will work....

I'll post a video review of the V10 in the next week or so when I have time and also do a thread / video review on the new upright machine when I get that.

I am being given one of the new Dyson air purifiers to review soon and I have cheekily asked if I could be considered for a V10 if they get any samples in for review. If I don't get one I will wait until Very get them in stock and benefit from the 15% discount I am entitled to. I will probably go for the base model if the V8 tools fit the V10.

Very nice you will be able to breath nice clean air now Roger.

I have one of those water distillers you have too, they are very good. They leave quite a bit of sediment behind.

Ok... Now I WANT the Corded Upright if it makes it to the USA! Hopefully in the USA it will be all Blue or Purple.. I don’t think I can buy it if our version is the circus colors. LOL No offense, I’m just picky about colors too and Red is my least favorite color as well as primary colors. But it’s still a cool vacuum.

On the video at 0:46 did anyone else notice the Mini brushroll that he used to clean under the couch? Wow, that must be the smaller Air Driven Brushroll Head they used on the USA DC26 Multi Floor Canister. Great idea as the Tangle Free Turbine tool is awesome but doesn’t lay very flat and can’t always reach into smaller spaces.

Does anyone know if there has been any mention of this corded vacuum being sold in the USA yet??

Matt, congratulations on the beautiful new Dyson V10! I can’t wait to hear how you like it and see your video review. I’m wondering.. do any of you in the UK know if AO.com is giving the V10 out to it’s review customers?? If so, I’m hoping they give one to Roger Lang (ibaisaic) too as I bet he would love it.

Thanks for your post, pictures and the video Matt!

Well I gave the V10 its maiden voyage tonight.

Everything was done using the middle power setting.

I vacuumed the full house at the same slow speed I would go with a corded machine. In theory I have vacuumed most rooms twice as I will do a room in one direction and then go over it all again in the opposite direction to make sure the brush roll gets right into the carpet pile.

I vacuumed the hard floor in the kitchen and dining room with the Fluffy head thoroughly doing under the dining table etc - in future I'll use the normal head for this floor but I wanted to give the Fluffy head a run to make sure it is working properly before I put it away in a cupboard.

Stairs and a fabric recliner chair we have in the living room (sofas are leather) were done with the motorised mini head so I've been using the most power sapping tools throughout the whole cleaning session.

After doing the full house the battery still had one of the three bars of power. It dropped to the last bar of power as I did the last bedroom (3 bedroom house) so I'd estimate I had about 20% power remaining by the time I had finished.

The only things I didn't do is go around the edges of carpeted rooms with the crevice tool and dust skirting boards with the dusting brush. These are things I'll probably do on big cleans with a corded machine anyway.

All in all the run time is more than enough to clean an averaged size home on the normal power mode.

House was last vacuumed 3 days ago using a 5 month old Sebo Felix that had a nearly new bag installed.

No kids or pets in the house.

This is what the Dyson has collected.

A respectable amount of dirt, with a mixture of carpet fibre from some wool carpets, dust, sand, grit and fine powdery dust. Certainly on par with what a full sized Dyson would remove on a similar vacuuming session and on par with what the Felix would remove too.

I dare say if I took a cup full of salt and scrubbed it into the carpet pile the V10 wouldn't do as well as a corded machine, however for normal day to day cleaning the V10 does a respectable job.

I want a full sized machine still and I am going to order the new upright I pictured above, however for my needs I could in theory have the V10 as my ONLY machine and not have any problems with running out of power or it not cleaning well enough.

Rodger - The new Dyson air purifier looks good. I had one of the Hot+Cool Pure Link ones a while ago. I bought it primarily to heat my bedroom when I finish work - I work 5pm till 1am shifts and if the house is a bit chilly when I get in from work I don't want to put the heating on and heat the full house at that time of night.

It seemed to work very well as an air purifier but if I came home from work and got into bed to watch TV while the heater was on the noise from the fan on a higher speed was a little annoying.

I ended up exchanging it for a Delonghi Dragon 4 heater - top model with the digital display and 10 year warranty.

Obviously a completely different product but for what I primarily want it for, heating, it does a very very good job and does it silently. In fact on high power it kicks out enough heat to fully heat a 3 bedroom victorian house in winter when our boiler decides to die.

Hi Matt.. Hi Mark...

Congratulations Matt on buying the Dyson Ball Animal 2! I don’t know if it’s identical to mine from the USA but I absolutely LOVE mine for carpeting. It’s got great suction and is very powerful.

Mark, I LOL every time you talk about Balls.. and now when I talk about the Dyson Ball vacuums I chuckle.

I am very pleased to have Three current vacuums from Dyson (Cinetic Big Ball, Ball Animal 2 and Small Ball Multi Floor), I would have four as my V8 is not too old, but wow that V10 is very very tempting to me. The more I read and see reviews about it, I want one too. But I am waiting because with Marks clarification about the Oreck Pod Cordless NOT having Air driven brushrolls.. I now am thinking of buying the Oreck. I did put a call in though and spoke with a lovely woman in Oreck customer service that said I could be considered for a free at home trial of the Oreck Cordless Pod, “IF” there are still customers needed. Either way she was kind enough to take my information and my email address. I’m sure it helps that my account with Oreck shows within a little over a years time, I have bought direct from Oreck Six vacuums.

Thanks to everybody for sharing about this newest Dyson Corded Upright.. I REALLY hope the USA gets a version of this as I definitely will buy one if available. Regardless of the color scheme, I love the new features on this one. Does anyone know if this Dyson Corded Upright has suction control? Is it taller or is the Cyclone and Dirt Bin more slender than say the Ball Animal 2??

Thanks guys for everything.. love the posts.. love the pics and especially value the opinions on the performance of these newest Dyson machines. It’s much appreciated, as are all of you guys.

Hi Matt, thanks for your review and really detailed info on the V10, I also liked your video. I am looking to replace my DC59 this week and am torn between the V8 Total Clean and the V10 Total Clean. I am trying to justify the £150 difference between the 2. I would use it mainly for hard floors with a little bit carpet and a bit for cleaning the car. It seems that on normal power with the motorised head there is little difference in runtime between the 2. Do you think the extra performance justifies the extra expense for the V10 - £500 seems so much, although £350 is not small change either! 😀

Somertons25

I had a V8 a while back and personally I prefer the V10.

Charge time on the V8 is 5 hours, whereas the V10 is 3.5 hours. The V10 also offers a bigger bin and a longer run time.

I suppose only you can decide if it is worth paying for the latest model. If you are going to use it often or as a main vacuum then I'd go for the V10.

Overall performance in terms of how clean your floor is left after use there isn't really any difference IMHO.

Thanks for your reply and thoughts. I think I’ll just swallow the cost and just go for the V10, I doubt I’ll be happy if I compromise. Will look forward to your video and thoughts on the Ball Animal 2 also. I really like the look of the articulated joint on the hose with the metal wand and handle!

Vacfan1982

Hello vacfan, I see u are from Cardiff too! I’ve changed my mind again, but I’ve ordered them both this afternoon 😳 I had all but decided on the V10 but was really struggling with the £500 as I know I will only be selling in a year or so when something else comes along. Anyway I opened a Very account and ordered the V8 Absolute and the Ball Animal 2 - with 10% off first order and 3 months to pay. So both of them cost just over the price of the V10. Can’t wait to try the Ball Animal 2 out - especially the new hose set up.
