Sebo E3 vs D4

To the people on vac-u-friends I apologize for the repetition.

So i've decided to purchase a new Sebo canister but i'm stuck on which one to get.
It's between the E3 graphite and the D4 Onyx. They have the same specs and powerhead so the major differences are
Cord length: E3 25ft D4 40ft
Bag capacity: E3 .92 Gal D4 1.5 Gal
Body weight: E3 11.4 Lbs D4 15.9 Lbs
Speed control: E3 slider on handle D4 +/= on hose handle
Hose coupling: E3 non swivel D4 320 swivel
Sound level E3 62 db D4 63 db < found on another site.

The other things that i think about are would the large top mounted pre filter of the D4 help it retain airflow better than the more traditional canister design of the E3?
While trying the E3 at an acquaintance's shop i noticed with no tool on the hose end that it created a whistling sound, does the D4 do that as well?

Trying to choose between the two is driving me nuts, I feel as though i'm leaning towards the D4 but i worry that perhaps that's the wrong decision. *shrugs*
If anyone has experience with these machines and wants to share their knowledge it'd be very much appreciated!

I have both. I feel the D4 doesn't have as much suction/airflow as the K Series. Also my K Series is not the newest design that you have pictured.

I just recently picked up a D4 myself. One thing I will say about it ... it's huge! I imagine you have already seen both of these in person. If not, except the D4 to remind you of something like a Hoover Dimension or a Hoover Celebrity. They're kind of massive. It handles decently, not great, and not what I expect the K3 would.
I got the D4 a couple of days after getting a C2 Electro, and after using the C2, that's probably why the D4 didn't feel as well handling.

I will say, the thing is amazingly quiet. It is really lovely. It, of course, has plenty of suction, and probably the best airflow of any canister I've used. The Miele C2 has better "suction" but I would be hard pressed to say it has better airflow than the Sebo. The Sebo and Miele are pretty equal, if not the Sebo may just edge out the Miele in terms of airflow.

Hm.

Bud: The shop i stopped had E3 and a used K3 for sale. Baird meter comparisons showed either 5 or 5.5 for the K3 and 6 for the E3 i'm guessing it's due to the tapered hose.
Kyle: Actually none of dealers surrounding the area have D4s they both have the E3 though. I did get the chance to try the E3 it's a nice machine. Not having any hands on experience with the D4 is part of what makes the decision difficult.

I would suggest

I would suggest the D4 if you can afford it, it will probably cost more than the E3. The E series is still fairly new and I wonder if it will replace the K series at some point. I don't have a D4, but I do have the D1 which is the straight suction model, the main difference between the D1 and D4 is that the D1 cannot support a power head and the suction control is on the vacuum itself rather than the hose, other than that they are the same. It's definitely a larger canister but this allows for a larger dust bag. I didn't know that the E series hose does not swivel, having a swivel hose does make things easier. Also the D series has a 40 foot cord which is the longest cord I have ever seen on a canister vacuum. That's longer than some central vacuum hoses. It may be a bit larger to store but it will stand up very nicely in a closet. So, again, I would definitely go for the D4.

You have to admit: having a 40-foot cord is a definite advantage offered by the D4. Seems like a great feature if you live in a large home, with stairways and many bedrooms to clean. Less unplugging and plugging as you move through the home.

another advantage of the d series

Another advantage of the D series that I forgot to mention is that they store the full sized appoulstry tool, crevis tool and dusting brush on board. The K series, and I believe the E series only stores two attachments, and you have to hook them together a certain way for them to work. Here is a video about the D4.

I do have to wonder after seeing a vacuumwizard video what does the D4 pull in terms of waterlift? They had it at a 70 and that seems off considering that the motor is rated for 95, I didn't think to test the E3 but i can ask the shop i was at to take a reading.

Price isn't a problem in this case. I don't have enough area i think to fully use either cord at least for now.

Yes the E series is the replacement for the K series, the upholstery tool has been changed it now attaches to the hose end or wands instead of having to connect it to the crevice tool. both the crevice tool and upholstery tool store on the back of the machine while the dusting brush is stored on a clip on the wand.

I'm not sure what the water lift is but I'm guessing it's more than 70, 95 sounds about right, the D series will have no problem cleaning what you ask it to, if price is not an issue than go for the D4, nothing but advantages over the E series.

I have the E3. It has decent suction and airflow but certainly not up to Mieles standard neither is the filtration. Still adequate for most people.

It's easier to manoeuvre than the rather bulky D4. The D4 is better suited to large homes.

Build quality is excellent!

I would say endless you need a 40' cord The E3 will be amazing .
The bags are big in both but the d4 has a bigger bag.

You will be happy with a Sebo no matter witch one you go with

I don't doubt the quality of either machine it's just i tend to overthink things and when I'm spending a fair amount on something i want to be sure of the decision I'm making. So i don't end up regretting not making a different choice.

Size and the quality of Sebo e1 bags

I have been reading this post for a while. Sorry for the wall of text :-(.
I have a Sebo E1 parquet, but I have the powerbrush ET-1 for a Sebo Felix.
The E1 is larger then the K1 and much smaller than the D-series.
I think the bag size is K: 3 litre, E: 3.5 Litre and D: 6 litre.

Two videos, one from me (E1) and one from ibaisiac (D4).
I will link to a music vacuum video I did where you can see the size of it at 2:40 and the problem I have with the bags at 3:39 (no, it is not fake and I find no wrong with my Sebo). It could be that my E1 has a 1200W motor and not a 700W. I do like my E1 though. Not as much as my Felix.

The air out of the vacuum is still filtered as it should, albeit not as well as a Miele. What happens is that the dust that is not contained in the bag will be picked up by the other filters and you will have to change them more often. The bags and the filters are not expensive though.


In the ibaisiac video he compares the size of the D4 with a Miele S8 (C3) at about 27 min. In some video on a D4 he mentions that he sometimes find dust in the container for his D4:s. But I don't remember which video. This I think is a great review.

Enjoyed the video comparing the Miele and Sebo machines, Jacub, your video was good as well, you can actually get a Miele with most of the same features around the same price as the Sebo, I think Miele's model is the cona.

I have the Black Sebo D4-this machine is very nice!Would like to try the Volt with it-just have to find a proper adaptor.I don't like the wird,triangular dust brush-just put a Kirby dust brush on the hose end-they will fit over the Sebo hose nozzle since the Kirby dust brush has a flexible hose connector.The bags in the Sebo D are HUGE-they take awhile to fill.

Forgot to mention in my first entry-do LOVE the 40' cord on the Sebo D I live in an older place where outlets aren't as common as in newer homes.And the D's cordwinder handles that long cord really well-and for its power the Sebo D is quiet.The powernozzle makes more noise than the tank unit.

Tolivac, here is a link to the adapter you are looking for, I have one of these and it works very well. Sebo's hose end is interesting, it's not quite the same as Miele's, it's a bit larger but it's still smaller than the commercial size of 1 1/2 size. With this adapter you should be able to use the Sebo with the volt, think I may try that myself.

Alex, I've watched your E3 vs Miele video, thank you for posting it it should bring awareness to this newer product.
Jakob, I haven't seen your E1 video before now, I'm curious though did you get that much dust leakage after a single use?
I have seen ibaisaic's video about his D4.

It looks like there's a lot of love for the D4 here that's probably the way I'll end up going, it'll only cost me 100 more than the E3 anyhow. I do like the E3's slider switches better than the D4's +/- switch since it's easier to identify your speed but I can live with it.

Single use

Yes, after I cleaned my whole apartment 2 rooms with a kitchen + 7 cat trees. I have tried to increase the length of the neck with a toalett paper roll but this happens every time. Am I the only one having this problem?
