I am looking for a wiring diagram for my new machine. After inspecting it I found only one problem. The power cord was loose from the unit body.

I took the machine apart and struggled with keeping the two halves steady while I worked on the cord. I cleaned and re-glued the cord stress sleeve back where it had separated. I am pretty sure I reconnected everything back as before.

When I plugged it in, I tripped the power strip. I took everything apart again, stripped the power cord from the stress sleeve and replaced the cording in that section with cording from beyond that point.

Tried it out and the fuse blew again. I bypassed the switch and nothing.
Did I ruin the motor? did I incorrectly bypass the switch.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Tristar CXL vacuum?

Thanks Antonine.

This helps greatly.

I took the switch apart and now I think I am going to have to replace it. I also want to replace the white cord with a genuine one.

Your help is appreciated.

Here's a simple way to remember one speed canister vacuum wiring.

There are two leads from motor. Two from cord. Two from switch. Two from power nozzle receptacle.

Connect in this order:
One cord to One motor and One receptacle

One cord to one switch

One motor to one receptacle to one switch

In the end, there should be three wire nuts holding the eight leads in the above connections.

Got it!

So, I followed the wiring schematic (will make a note of Tom's instructions), and it works fine. I fabricated a cord retainer (broke to old one having glued it in place using Gorilla crazy glue). Wires nutted up, plugged in and she hums. Now comes the task of getting those two clam halves back together properly.

NOW, since I have the motor exposed, I want to lubricate the bearings. It is an Ametech Lamb. I have searched online and here and have not found anything yet.

I know some motors have ball bearing and sleeve bearings and certain lubricants for each.

I will keep searching. I washed the hose out yesterday, so I can stand to wait to ensure the hose dries out thoroughly.

Thanks Antoine & Tom!

The Ametek "Lamb" motor used in the Tri-Star was also used in many other cleaners (Filter Queen, Air-Way, Kenmore, Eureka, etc.). I learned how to take them apart and work on them years ago. It CAN be done, but experience is needed to do it properly. I ruined many at first before I learned. You can replace the ball bearings almost as inexpensively as greasing with high-temp bearing grease. The ball bearings are (last time I bought any) about $3 each. Most Tri-Star "Lamb" motors are double ball bearing motors.

Thanks again, guys..

Antoine, I really like that blue Electra. Also, both, thanks for the advice concerning the motor. As I see no issues at this time, I will leave it alone.

To all, I will make the time to finally take pictures of all these new finds soon. In particular, the Hoover Celebrity Chrome Commercial. That one I am interested in selling to a member, not to the gen. pub.

Looks good!

With the exception of sealing the strain relief on the cord better, I think I am done. Tried it out just now, works really well. Was nice to find part of the badge (tar-IEC) in the bag of accessories & filters. Gorilla Crazy Glue made quick secure work of it. Here are the pictures.

QUESTION, I only had the basic exhaust cap on and I noticed the blue lighting coming from the motor...just blue, no smell, no orange/yellow.

I thought I read that this is normal? Is it?
