So I finally got the Lux D790 Royal. For me it's the "real" Electrolux. It seems very solidly built.
Yes it's heavy and was overpriced for the most "normal" people in the 90's when it was made.
But for vacuum enthusiast like me I appreciate classic look and durable structure. It's also powerful and surprisingly quiet + hepa filter option in the mid 90's. I didn't even know the hepa filtering existed back then.
Yes it got some scratches, powerhead cord is external and it isn't the easiest to maneuver. But for me it's the real thing.
I might be "a little bit" excited about it, but I am new at collecting vacuums.
I hope someone has experience about this vac.

Hepa Filter option

Hi Mike
I had a D790 in the 90's. The HEPA Filter was sold as option separatly. It was a Box with a changeable Hepa Filter in the back. As the Filter was between bag and motor, it was also protecting the motor from fine dust. The exhaust Filter is a large Microfilter.
I personally took out the HEPA filter, when the new synthetic bags came out.

Yeah the Hepa box is nice feature and it gives extra protection to the motor. But like you said using the synthetic bags there is no really need for that. Synthetic bags have good filtration compared to the paper bags. Exhaust microfilter must be the biggest I have seen.
I am very happy about the vacuum and it has quite quiet and soft sounding motor. Suction is also great and motor speed control is useful feature.
Powerhead (model ZE3) is quite interesting. Very unusual air channels in it. It works nicely on the low pile carpet, but on my medium pile shag it is very hard to push and it causes belt to slip. I am trying to figure out how to solve that problem. It has surprisingly powerful motor (150 watts) considering the brush roll size.
I have now new video of it.

This powerhead has a small brush roll with soft bristles so it's not a deep cleaner.
It would be just nice to be able to use it on my shag rug. But it seems to fail in that without the manual height adjustment.
If I want to give my rugs a deep clean I use my upright seen in the link. It has very stiff bristles and manual height adjustment.
When I use it on my delicate shag rug I set the height to the second highest position.

Oh that's why it wasn't working :D

I made small modification to the soleplate and now it's working much better and it's a bit easier to push. You can see the mod in the picture. Just a tiny bit more side suction so it doesn't stick to the carpet. It actually performed very nicely and made nice grooming trails. Belt still seems to be a bit loose, so I need to order that.

Lux power head cleaning performance

Mike, it seemed to pick up well in your video. Good suction does help a great deal.
I wonder if a beefier brush roll would retrofit? It sounds like the motor can handle it.

Yes it picks up well, but the belt was a bit loose. I fitted the new Vorwerk ET 30 belt and now what a difference! No slowing down on the shag carpet. It has 150w motor so new brushroll wouldn't be a problem.

hard to push

It's a bit hard to push, but not harder than my Miele SEB-217 powerhead with wheels. After my small modification (small suction release holes) it doesn't stick to the carpet so much like it used to (due to the powerful suction).
