Fred's red vacuum shop

in springfield. this was a HUGE treat on the way home. sean and i had planned to putz thru springfield maybe hoping to pick a thrift store or antique mall. we first hit silver city vacuum just by seeing it. i got some great hoover brushstrips there and the owner pointed us to freds. if it werent for his the magical encounter wouldnt have taken place.

fred's is run by his widow and her tech larry. great people. we were just about to give up for lost when she said, why dont you let them in sheds? theres lots of old vaucums in there? the following photos show what we discovered. they are VERY collector friendly, and larry will repair ANY machines reguardless of age. i will post thier address and phone at the end of this photo set.

the tech then mentions of this "other old vacuum" he has and brought it out. i almost soiled myself when i saw it. a hoover model 825! somehow it wasnt tossed in the un weather protected sheds! he serviced it, it runs great! as you can see it came home with me. stan kann was indeed with us on this trip and in a totally unexpected way. every time i see this machine and use it once its restored i will think of him and this trip. sean didnt come away empty handed either, he got the kenmore upright with a cord reel. i also took home a parts powerhead for my 1980 sears best powermate, an out amerian lincoln super sweep bag, and hoover handisac bags.

this vacuum shop was a real treat. Chad and kenny visited there just a few days ago and got equally good finds.

the vacuum shop's contact info is

One must always practice safe vacuuming.

THe glove thing (it IS a running joke, to enlighten those in the dark), began in '08, when I first joined.
As you mayhave seen from various photos of mini meets, etc. I've had 'other species' in my home. I've had lots of people, too. Some are life long friends now. I'm afraid, one or two may have been disloyal "spies", if you will. People come, visit, enjoy the activities, meals, fun, etc.... some run back to others and report. I prefer the former to the "latter".
It's amazing what people really say about us. Some meet me and say, "Wow..you looked taller". Others want to know if I'm "really like that all the time"... others think I'm funny, some want to engage in serious conversation.
I guess one purpose of meets, conventions is to find out more about our club members.

So, the gloves are in the suitcase, ready for the next time. ...Don't worry, I have a large supply. I'll share.
And, I appreciate those who appreciate a sense of humor. Barb almost fell over LAST year when I put on my KIRBY shirt, and walked into the KIRBY Factory...(with my HOOVER hoodie tied around my waist). Morgan almost died when I wore it to Filter Queen. I'm a good sport. I also play well with others....some better than others, lol

Agreed, John! You never know what kind of creatures are lurking in the shadows. I thoroughly enjoy your posts and speaking with you! I'm looking forward to next years convention now that I've made it all official! :)
