Here is my Electrolux turbo 2 that I got in a job lot with a Hoover Turbopower junior, I believe this would of been BOL, the 500s came out in the 70s and were intended to be replaced by the short lived 600's, however they were so popular that Electrolux continued production even when the 600's were replaced with the contours, Electrolux tried to replace the now called turbo 2 with the Glider but it never did, If I have got any of that wrong feel free to add some insight :), here is the before and after pics hope you like them.

Showing the rather bland control panel, earlier models had handle on/off as well as an adjustable bag whistle, top end models had an electronic variable speed control as well as a bag light.

Michael,

true that. It's much the same with my 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ. It's not a classic yet. Not many bother restoring them, but there are survivor cars out there, especially in the western US. It only has a 5 litre V8 engine, so it's a sluggish performer, but it is comfortable, with large velour bucket seats that envelope you in firm support. I can drive it on a six hour trip without fatigue.
It can also average decent fuel mileage if you keep it around 65 MPH, or 110 Km/hr. About 22 MPG.
I also had a 2001 Bonneville SSEi supercharged, but a lady rear ended me and the insurance company totaled it.

A very good job you have done on that. Well done.

A couple of things to point out (you did ask!), this model did not go on sale until the Autumn of 1991. There was a gap of a year or more between the previous model and this, with the introduction of the Glider in 1989 or so before the existing Twin Turbo of the day was discontinued.

Although the Twin Turbo2 was a great vacuum cleaner, and was certainly liked by consumers, I don't understand why Electrolux bought it back out. Anyone wanting a base-end Electrolux would have had to buy what was on offer, had this one not existed, simple as.

The other point is that handle switches and bag-full whistles were limited to the 500 series only and not the Twin Turbo - I wasn't sure whether or not your comments about the control panel and previous features were crossing the whole range of cleaners, or if you thought there had been a Twin Turbo with a whistle.

z1055

Hi there,

I have the Z1055 which is the 'Super' Turbo 2 not much difference in them that I know of??

Mine is filthy and very discoloured in the body, now yellow NOT white. I will be doing the same as yours, full strip down and service at some stage. Yours looks great though, well done.
