Yes, I did have one of the canisters - one of the most painful vac experiences I ever had. Those were made by Panasonic, and a few years after they were produced, Sears and Panasonic got into some sort of megillah that resulted in no replacement hose availability for a time (I understand they're available again, too late to do me any good). Worse, the hose was prone to premature failure via splitting, and I mean BAD splitting - you'd tape one split and another would appear before you got the tape put away.

After about a year and a half of frantic taping, I finally got rid of the thing, because I could not get a new hose. Between this baby and a Hoover Dimension that blew its motherboard, I said goodbye to new vacs forever.

OMG!!!

I've got one downstairs with whats left of the hose. The model that I have, the hose is completely obsolete. I will have to dig it out and get some pics of it, if I can find it.

I had the canister (still have it but no hose)

Will the new hose fit or can I still get the one this canister originally takes?

I acquired one through a local estate sale, think it was called a Power Handle Canister, but sold it on Ebay awhile back, maybe a year or so ago...I wasn't impressed with it...the hose needed work, but it sold on Ebay. I laugh because the catalog states "deluxe tools" that 4 piece tool set was standard on most of their canisters...nothing deluxe about them in my eyes, haha.

I think he's asking about the dry clean upright thing. I have one and I think it's great. This model can also be used for plain vacuuming. It has paper bags that are long discontinued. Seems to very powerful though i never used it for dry cleaning. I also have the other model that's a cyclonic bag less and it's a peice of Sh@@.

I've never seen the dry cleaning machine.

We did have a similar canister. A cousin gave it to us as she got a new vacuum, and it was a lower end model without the power handle or headlight. I really liked that machine. The hose was duct taped but otherwise it worked fine. Unfortunately my mother threw it away when she got a new Kenmore Whispertone canister in 1999. She tried to sell it at a yard sale but it didn't sell.

Power nozzle

The shape of the upright looks similar to the power nozzle that Alex Braun has. That won one of the competitions at the convention, if I remember correctly.

Dryclean n Vac

Upright-I think I have one in place of which we do not speak(part warehouse,part Collyer bros memorial).Anybody want? Canister-I had 1 customer that needed switch on hose when it was still available but did not like price.US hose end was all white.

Id love to see the upright, Ive never seen/used it nor do I remember seeing it in the cataloge or the store.

Is 1984 the date of the catalog? Machine looks like a Panasonic product but I didn't know they were using that case design in '84. The material used in early Panasonic-made hoses wasn't the best. Premature embrittlement was a problem. You can restore such hoses with later hose stock using the original fittings. Many of the Kenmore hose fittings come apart by being squeezed on the two sides with the latches, then from there it's pretty easy. I've restored many Kenmore electric hoses with hose sections taken from other makes, such as Eureka and Hoover.

Gary and all, the 24991/2 Powerhandle is still a 100% Whirlpool product, Sears Best canister from 2/3/84 to early 1987 at a price of $439 USD and the beginning of the "Premier" line 5055 swivel hose models.  This was the only model with a 3 wire white hose, prone to the splits, and the only way to get a replacement is the gray 3 wire hose body part 4150585 (NLA).  There is another Powerhandle Kenmore, the gray 26455 with the 4.5 motor and the wide beam quick release Powermate, oh what I would do to get one of them.


 


Brian, I bought your Powerhandle back in 2010 and still have it, but this one I had Chad Cunningham get for me in Kansas City (thank you again) as the seller was a cuckoo church lady feeling uneasy about me driving 500 miles round trip for a sweeper.  Mine had a perfect hose until 2 weeks after I got it the dreaded splits started forming near the handle and I used silicone sealant and white electrical tape to hold it together.


 


Kenny, funny you should mention how the dry clean n vac looks like my Ultra Vac Power-Mate II, the dry clean n vac is actually referenced in the patent for the machine when describing the nozzle body and design.

I just recently acquired a similar canister model. Mine is not the power handle model. It has the power switch & cord rewind pedal on the rear of the canister.Complete with all tools & a non-splitting hose all for $2.99. I was ecstatic to find this model since this was the identical machine that my dad bought for my mom on their anniversary in '86 or '87. Seems there was a past thread about something that could be used on these hoses to keep them supple & prevent cracking, anybody remember what it was??

curb find

I picked this up on the curb just last week. A landlord was cleaning out a rental house. I had to repair a split in the hose by the handle, but I have to do that on alot of my older kenmore canisters.

Nice finds on the canisters. I never see them around, and I don't recall seeing any of the fancier ones with powerhandle or the rewind pedal and speed control from that era. The ones I saw and had just had an on/off pedal.
