Cool vacuum - I'm shocked at how small it is when you're holding it! It looks so much larger sitting on the floor...
Does it use disposable bags or is that a re-usable filter?

I don't tend to like vacuums that are a)'modern' and b) not by Hoover, but that wee Goblin is charming! I'm with Seamus in that it's a later one though, the early ones were badged as Goblin Rio's - think yours is a more powerful later one? I remember Juile Walters doing the adverts for it.
No matter though, it's still cool. They are tiny, toy sized machines, and I do like the three-tone plastic effect! It must be one of the first modern type bagless cleaners too. They were dead cheap, I think.
In my student days, I rescued one of these! It was sat outside a house, and I thought the owners might have been hoovering the car with it, but when I went past the next day it was still there! So it came home with me. Don't actually remember using it though...

That was my 1st vacuum cleaner!!!
That was the 1st vacuum cleaner I ever owned.
But it was all in red!!
I got it from by the bins at my dads flat when I was about 7/8ish.

I heard the later ones were called "Rio" Simon..and well, if my 800 watts one is a more powerful version, i'd like to see the standard model heh, 100 watts cylinder cleaner..imagine it..
But yeah it's scrubbed up very nicely hasn't it? not bad at all for some "oxy magic" some JIF NOT CIF
P) some antibacterial wipes and of course, good old fashioned Moore brand elbow grease ;p

Ghetto Edit: The brochures i've seen in the files on the hooverland yahoo group states the price as new for one of these as £39.99, thats not bad I suppose, it's a sad thing when a bottom of the range 80s cleaner such as this is of better quality than our best vacuums nowerdays
You know i'm right i've experienced modern vacs, the DC02 cord rewind the repairman couldn't get back together, the Electrolux "the boss" upright that spontaniously combusted..
I rest my case ;p

Spares!
Well I was trawling through espares (I plan to buy some bags and the like when I push my lux 500's into service, thanks to simons website for reccomending them..they do look very good, nice and professional.) and it seems all the spares for this particular model of goblin are still in production or w/e, all the tools (seemingly official) new filters, new motor componments, new dust boxes, new motor housings (da red bit) and all sorts..

Its a Rio XPC, switchable between 750W and 1000W,
although it doesnt seem to make a difference!
Mine has a light grey dust box, and top of motor. The base of the motor is darker grey.
Sorry dont have any pictures.

Nice little vac there Ian, with a mighty suck n blow, the early one where definately called Rio in the early 80`s, remember selling these at Trident....loud blighters, need your ear muffs deffo...

I do like the noise tbh, it's unique..like most old goblin vacs imo. That whine when you plug the hose with the palm of your hand (why do ALL collectors do that!? ) the "dwoooooo" when it turns off.
The lux 500 noise is pretty cool too..and as for the Convertable/Dial A Matic? those really are earplug material.
