Hello -

I found this the other day at a thrift shop and wondered what it was :

I did some research and found this explanation :

Electrolux Vacuum cleaners were often sold door-to-door. The salesman would drop off a small plastic bank (with your contract) and stop by weekly to collect the quarters you had saved up. Quarters can be inserted in the slot in the bottom. I put one in, and needed to slide something in the slot to remove it, as it seems to lock once a quarter is inserted. (I guess the Electrolux guy would do that.) The piece is in very good vintage condition, and is 6 inches long.

I have one of these. Mine is gray and looks like a Sliverado. I was wondering how you opened it to empty the coins as the "bag door" seems fixed and no other means is obvious.

I have an earlier Electrolux Save-N-Pay Bank that looks like a turquoise model G. The locking mechanism on it is designed to only allow opening when it is either empty or completely full, by depressing the "switch." I'm assuming yours would operate the same way.

Only the Model G banks(both colors)opened with the switch button and had wheels that turned. These continued from the 1205 as above to the Marquise and all would have come in small boxes that were replicas of the large box.The later front door can be unsnapped with a combination of firm, gentle & careful. There was a Mo XXX bank from a company that made square banks with 3 sizes of coin slots and would print any company, bank, etc name and/or picture. The one for Electrolux showed the Mo XXX with hose, wands & nozzle.
