1205 Disaster!

Well, I said I was going to switch out all the innards in my 1205 to correct the intermittent problem.

Unfortunately, the damn thing slipped in my hands as I was working on it, breaking the terminal block connectors as it left my hands, and the caster guard as it hit the floor.

I think I'm not meant to have a 1205. Anyone got an L or a non-automatic E for sale reasonably? I would need one with a PN port, and I want turquoise. I do NOT need tools, a hose, or a PN. And I would prefer a halo to a cordwinder. Of course, a TriStar would also be welcome, like a CXL. Whichever model the red TriStar is, that is one I don't want.

But I'm sadly swearing off 1205's. Two machines that didn't work out is enough. On the bright side, I have two 1205 cordwinders, two switches, a top deck with handle, and a motor rebuilt by Nathan for sale.

Third time could be a charm

I have a 1205 that needs a new home,it was my main vacuum from 92 to 98 then I got my olympia one,and was using that one up until a few months ago,now I have a garage and have two many vacuums and two little time, I just counted nine in the house,the Luxes are keeping each other company in the garage,along with many others, The luxes still work,the braided hoses wore out,and the olympia one needs a switch,but comes on when you plug it in,and when I got the 1205 it didn't have an elecric hose so I wired an extention cord end so I could use my non electric hose with the external wire to the P/N but it is an electric hose model,it works but needs some cleaning up and maybe a new coat of paint or just use the insides in your 1205. I just need to clean out my garage, so if your interested in these you are welcome to them,just pay for shipping and packing, Or if not maybe another vacuumland member could give these a home. 1205 Troubles here too.......

I bought a mint 1205 all complete at an estate sale a while back. A beautiful machine cosmetically. The motor was shot. No problem, I had a spare and put it in. While using it on Thanksgiving morning before the company arrived, the replacement motor went out. Strike 2. I found another motor and installed it. Shortly there after the switch went out. After three failures, the machine is on a shelf in my collection room as a display unit. I often wonder if it is posessed. After all it was from an estate.

Sandy, if you're looking for an "L" and you want just the machine, I may have one. Let me know. E's and F's might be up there too.

Buffalo_Joe: I would be very interested in an L like the one in the photo I'm putting in this post. I'm looking for turquoise, no cordwinder, and I do not need tools or anything, just the canister. swiveltop: I am absolutely blown away by your offer. I appreciate it more than I can say. I think I really do need to find an all-metal vacuum, though, because the 1205 has two critical plastic components that are not being made any more- the caster guard and the connector block inside the machine. Since these machines are thirty years old and more, I think their plastic is reaching the end of its lifespan, at least those pieces that have to take the heat and bumping that vacs get in normal use.

I always wanted a 1205, and I did achieve my dream. I had the most pristine, most beautiful 1205's you ever saw. But it was not meant to be, and I'm okay with that. A vacuum cleaner is for vacuuming (at least in my house), and I think I'll be better off with a machine that has nothing irreplaceable about it.

Model L

All model L's have a power nozzle plug. Lux started power nozzles in '59 I believe. Model L's come out in the early 60's and ran until the late 70's.
I have a model L and I love it. Lightweight, powerful,simple, and quiet. Mine used to be turquoise, but it was painted silver when it was rebuilt. I'm sure you would love one too.

I appreciate the reassurance. I knew that a lot of G's have add-on PN ports, and I just assumed that L's were also converted. Your info makes the search much easier.

Your right about the old plastic and heat after twenty or thirty years it does tend to get brittle, I had to replace the plastic lint screen assembly in my model 308 Maytag dryer a few years ago,was lucky to find the part,and some of the plastic interior pieces in my 89 Volvo 240 are starting to go,too bad they don't make them anymore. I have a 1988 240 wagon. I can tell you that the interior plastics hold up very well if they're protected from sun. I'm in Georgia, where the sun is not quite as intense as Texas's, but I've also had issues. What I've done is to replace damaged pieces with ones off eBay, being sure that they're from the North. Pieces from the Boston, New York, and other Northern areas are usually in pretty shape. Then I use Vinylex to protect them from further sun damage, and I'm careful to keep the car in the shade. Vinylex is a vinyl protectant made by the Lexol people (Lexol is the best leather protectant out there), and it works way, way better than Armor-All.
