11 TV Theme Songs That Secretly Have Lyrics

(I seriously doubt that these song lyrics are particularly "secret," as if there's some "conspiracy of silence" or whatever; that's just how the site's owner tried to be a bit lurid about it.)

I'd seen the clip of Lorne Greene, Dan Blocker and Michael Landon bellowing out the Bonanza theme many years ago. Interestingly Pernell Roberts (a.k.a. Adam Cartwright), the only one of the four who was a trained singer, had the good taste not to participate in that little travesty.

The Star Trek lyrics were published in a paperback book called "The Making of Star Trek" by Stephen E. Whitfield and Gene Roddenberry. They appeared right after the title page with no explanation as to what it was or why it was there. In retropsect, I guess Roddenberry had to get them published somewhere in order to collect royalties.

Oh, and that Mayberry theme. I used to work in a retail store that had Andy's sung version on unusually high rotation on the in-store music programming. Many years prior to that I lived in Mt. Airy, NC, Andy Griffith's hometown and inspiration for the mythical town of Mayberry. I worked in an office downtown on Main Street and the Chamber of Commerce would play that song (the whistling version from the TV show) over speakers on the light poles on a continuous loop. It was uber obnoxious to those who were stuck listening to it all day. I always wondered if they has subliminal messages back-masked onto the recording: "You will be happy... You will buy lots of Mayberry merchandise... You will name your children 'Opie'..." That was one weird little town and I do not miss it one bit.
