Royal 882 - Need quick advice

Since my 4000 is a 1999 model and does not have oil ports nor accessible carbon brushes and a 10.5 amp i was under impression it was drop in so.... Since it is not and I can still buy a complete motor assembly for it from either ereplacement parts and amazon, is it easily replaceable by a...

Royal 882 - Need quick advice

Hey Stan are all these drop in models the same motor?

Royal 882 - Need quick advice

Les so the 4000 is the only Royal with an easily replaceable drop in motor? Why? I mean why wouldn’t all the models have that? Seems like the easiest and cheapest way to keep it running. I mean if my motor simply stopped working for $86 I can drop a brand new motor into it myself and basically...

Royal 882 - Need quick advice

True so true. I'm sure part of the reason is that people don't vacuum near as much as they probably should. Can't say I have ever had a vacuum motor die on me.

Royal 882 - Need quick advice

Thanks guys! I'm not giving up on collecting a couple more Royals I'm just not paying premium for them (even if it is still a good deal compared to what you get today for $150.00) Furthermore, garage, thrift store and flea market finds are really more fun and you get more of a sense of, "look...

Royal 882 - Need quick advice

Thanks for the info MadMan. This 882 may be more than I am capable/willing to deal with in terms of maintenance. Looking at the condition of the vacuum, it could very well have dried up bearings . Does not look like it was used much therefore, not oiled much. Furthermore I would be buying...

Royal 882 - Need quick advice

Ok. Hooked on vintage Royals. Found a cheap 4000, cleaned it up, shined it up, new roller, belts, bags...good to go $60.00 altogether. Not bad. Love it, pull my medium height pile straight up and a pleasure to move around and store. Found a 1992 (MINT) Royal 882 on ebay. With shipping I...

    Dirt devil stick vac plus

The gentlemen who helped me was fantastic and spend a lot of time talking to me about Royals. He seemed liked he was in charge. I will give them as much business as I can when something is needed. He eluded to the fact he has a lot of Royals parts and he should be able to get whatever I need...

    Dirt devil stick vac plus

This is weird. My vacuum store is in Hammond, IN and the company is called "The Henry Company". They are no longer on Hohman Ave which is about 3 miles from their current location. Possible this is the store? I know it is a 2nd or 3rd generation owner. Nice find BTW.

    Not another Royal

Well I found a beautiful 882 on ebay. Its from 1992, green, and with shipping should put me about $140.00. It really is in fantastic condition. Looks like it hasn't been sitting in a closet past 20+ years. I'm thinking about it. Any reasons not to get it? I mean, when does it stop? When is...

    How loud should it be?

Tried to upload video, ain’t happening. Oh well, I’m ok with it anyway. The vac store that sold me the brush roller told me he has never known a bearing to go out in the drop in motors and the brushes are made to last life of motor. They unofficially marketed them as the Titanic of vacuums...

    How loud should it be?

It’s the brush roller, no doubt. As soon as it hits carpet you can hear a rattle and it is absolutely installed correctly. When I tilt it back, it just as a normal deep bellow sounds, sounds good.. I didn’t hear it in the video though. I will try to upload a video in my next post. Kirby has...

    How loud should it be?

A lot of the noise is from the brush roll. When I lift the front up while on, it’s loud but not like metal clanging, just a deep bellowing rumble. The brushroll is brand new and is in correctly. The plate is on correctly as well. The vac store did comment that Royal cheapened their brushroll and...

    How loud should it be?

Sorry to keep going on about the Royal but I have one more topic to discuss. My Royal is very loud. I have a 1988 Kirby Heritage and the Royal is considerably louder. No strange noises, just very loud. My wife asked I do not vacuum when she is home. Sound right?

    One disgusting Royal

Thanks folks for your help and time in posting those pics. Just for my clarification, what I call the shaft (part belt loops over) comes off counterclockwise? A lot of other videos of "how to remove fan on metal Royal" they spin clockwise to remove. Is the 4000 model different for same reason.

    One disgusting Royal

Oh I know, just joking. However, I am going to soak the parts again in a laundry tub of hot water and Dawn dish shop. Any tips on how to get the fan shaft off? Seems to not want to turn much past 1/4 inch or so.

    Loosening stubborn screw on Royal

Heat did it. I agree with Les, the screw extractors are junk. Never had one work for me.

    One disgusting Royal

Well it’s as good as it’s going to get. I need a new nozzle gasket but I believe they can still be found. I can’t seem to get the fan shaft off. Clockwise is off right? It takes a lot to turn it but not coming off.

    One disgusting Royal

Well I finally got my Royal 4000 apart. I can’t believe the filth I found. I am currently soaking it in orange solvent . I did wipe clean the tag with model serial etc clean accidentally but I know what it is and no intention of ever selling it. It is a small price to pay to get that filth out...
