Kirby G5 Handle Pivot Spring Assembly.

An update: Almost embarrassed to write this. From the posts above I posted the pivot spring assembly had gone and I got one on ebay. So I swapped them over and the handle just flopped over like before. Now I have had this Kirby 20+ years and never had a problem, so what was wrong? It turns out...

    outrageous shipping on ebay!

Not just ebay I recently wanted a couple of screws for a Kirby, about $2 but $15 shipping to the uk. Some ebay sellers will inflate postage / price if they are low on stock so they can keep the item listed on ebay until more stock arrives.

    Homemade polishing tool

I found this useful for getting in to those tight corners when polishing aluminium. I started using an old toothbrush and the head snapped off, which left a nice angle on the shaft so glued a piece of dense foam on to it and then used an aluminium polish / paste to get in to those awkward...

    Aluminium polishing issue

..."The g series aren't going to shine like older Kirby's. You will never get mirror shine"...... Interesting you say that the 1st kirby I renovated a couple of years back was a Traditional and I got a fantastic finish on it. (since sold it) The G series I have been finding it difficult to get...

    Aluminium polishing issue

I have managed to get this part of a G4 polishing up nicely except for one part (image) The aluminium has markings which look crystalline in nature a bit like frost on a cold morning. Not the best image as difficult to show due to glare. Its like it is under the surface. Anyone know what it is...

    Sanding out scratches on aluminum.

This is 2 I have renovated (before and after pics), I hand polish for deep scratches and then polish on bench grinder wheel. Images 1 & 2 are an earlier model and Images 3, 4 & 5 are a G5 that was in a heck of a state.

    Sanding out scratches on aluminum.

I reckon if you have a bench grinder then get some buffer attachments which are relatively cheap, would take you finish up another level.

    Screw sizes

I got a local guy to check the thread, he reckons it is... UNC 32 tpi 1/8 equivalent wire gauge = No6 or No 8. Going by previous comments it looks like it is an no 8.

    Screw sizes

From the image using screws from the casing which are the same thread, trouble is I dont know what measurements to use when trying to order, in the uk we are metric which I dont think Kirby are so that rules out going to a hardware store as they wont stock them. Are they whitworth / Imperial...

    Screw sizes

Does the Kirby (G4) use imperial thread on screws. (UK)I am trying to get a screw for the Wedge - Slide Adjustment. Does anyone know what measurements I should be looking for as I hopefully can buy on ebay. My estimate is 1 inch x 5/32 (3,6 mm)The screws that are used on the main body cover...

    Nice challenge Kirby G5

Lesinutah......by the time I buy the plastics I would still have the damaged `paintwork` so just going to sell it on and use the cash to buy a better model. The attached image is as far as I will take this one, you can see on the image some of the `mottling` on the aluminium. It would take a...
