Nice challenge Kirby G5

I think I am going to struggle with the belt lifter though as it is well rusted but still operates, I may just do the best I can with a dremel and wire brush but would like to clean out between the washers. I would like to get that off but cant source labels in the Uk.

Hey

My first Kirby was a g4. I took apart and had no idea what was wrong. It just grinded and sounded bad. The carbon brushes we're gone. I recently got a model c Kirby. It's carbon brushes we're gone. Looking at the vacuum I doubt they changed them. Just for piece of mind changing them while it's easily to access could save huge problems.
You said you didn't turn vacuum on yet. You want to make sure everything is done right. This would be one thing to check.
I have 3 sentrias and 2 g6s and I ordered carbon brushes for all 5. I'm opening them up just like you and it will help vacuum run in peak condition.
Sorry to be persistent just don't want you to finish vacuum and have to test apart put carbon brushes on.

I managed to ease off part of the label and get the belt lifter off, what a state, now much cleaner.
Its a pity about the plastics and paintwork otherwise it could turn out to be a tidy machine.
The outer casing looks shinier than it really is as I still have some light mottling which appears just under the surface, buffed most of it out but considering the rest of the cosmetics will leave it at that.

Hey

You can buy plastics either get a parts machine or buy from kirbyneeds. If that's an option.

Lesinutah......by the time I buy the plastics I would still have the damaged `paintwork` so just going to sell it on and use the cash to buy a better model.
The attached image is as far as I will take this one, you can see on the image some of the `mottling` on the aluminium.

It would take a lot more work to sand out the mottling and the scratches.

Its still a vast improvement from when I got it. It has been a good learning curve for me with the carbon brushes, the belt lifter and the brush roller, so not in vain.
