Looks like the spring has gone in my G5 handle pivot, is this repairable or do I need to get the complete pivot assembly and replace it?

thanks

As far as I know, that assembly is not serviceable. No individual parts exist for the mechanism.
However it was used in multiple G series models, the differences being only the trim piece (boot and knob) colors (and those pieces could be transferred to the new assembly easily)

An update:
Almost embarrassed to write this. From the posts above I posted the pivot spring assembly had gone and I got one on ebay. So I swapped them over and the handle just flopped over like before.
Now I have had this Kirby 20+ years and never had a problem, so what was wrong?
It turns out the bag was over filled and the weight was overcoming the spring tension. Sometimes its an easy fix :-)

Sounds like a case of being blinded by the obvious, lol...
We all have done that probably more times than we wish to admit..

At least you got the part at a decent price and you can put it away with your attachments, just in case it does break.
I remember by Tradition often falling over when I pulled it around by the hose. I thought it might not have had the right rear axle. Sure enough, bag was getting full.

If you are using the newer HEPA bags in your G series, those hold more debris and they can pack a lot of dirt in them before the suction fades off (takes awhile with a vacuum like a Kirby). Using my Sentrias I noticed the handles get pretty heavy after vacuuming for weeks and weeks as the bag maxes-out. I don't seem to hit that amount that fast in my older G series with a paper bag, I think because paper doesn't pack the dirt so densely.

If you want the spring tighter, I believe you can notch out a link and re-shape a new end.
