    Cadillac collectors

That's the typical Cadillac blower. They've been making those since the 20s. Haven't stopped yet. Funny, they're always on ebay for $300+ and of course they never sell. Even the vintage ones aren't desirable to anybody. They're industrial equipment, not antiques. This one's not even that old...

    Caligula

You know, in general, on the internet, people refer to one another by their handle / username. Not their irl name. If you prefer people call you Alex, maybe you should just say THAT instead of explaining why you named your cat after a Roman emperor with small feet every single time somebody...

My BIG thumbs-up for the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

It's amazing what a very mild abrasive will do, isn't it?

    Panel/console lights on ranges/ovens/washer/dryer

I was gearing up to have the top panel repaired. I found a guy who re-enamels stuff. As soon as I said it was a Roper, he said it must have the rust holes on the sides. He said they're all like that, but didn't know why. I know why. The pilot lights have heat shields that redirect the heat from...

What are the annular grooves in this motor's commutator?

I don't know for sure but I'll bet you the commutator is perfectly flat and normal. It's the brushes that have grooves in them and a motor with very very few hours on it would pick up the marks of the brushes' grooves before wearing them down enough to get past the grooves. I'll bet the grooves...

    Miele Electro Repair

Most of the folks around here are scared of those new-fangled circuit boards... >_> tbh, I myself won't mess with smd stuff, though to be fair, I'm simply not equipped to handle it. Yeah my advice would be to seek out a good board, or pictures thereof. Best of luck.

    1940s Royal Motor Diagram

I don't wanna be that guy, but it's a switch and a motor. Nothing else. I understand that not everyone is going to understand it. Line from the cord goes into the switch. Out of the switch goes to one wire on the motor. The other wire goes to Neutral on the cord. That's it.

    Trash vacs

I got a Hoover recently, late model something-or-other. Bagless, obviously. But it's got a cord winder and a foot pedal that disengages the brushroll belt. Thought that was pretty neat. Dumped because the filter was clogged, obviously. Works nicely. My mom started talking about getting a new...

Hoover Lark 14 outer bag replacement

Hard to tell from the pic. It's probably wrapped with wire. Pull back the bag down a bit more, and you should see some wire or a band wrapped around it.

    Panel/console lights on ranges/ovens/washer/dryer

Roper stove I got out of a 1950s house that was being demolished. The whole kitchen was 100% original 1950s. I still have it, albeit in pieces, because the top piece of metal has large rust holes on either end. Fixing the steel is going to be a pain, but then it has to be re-enameled afterwards...

    Carbon brushes question

Can't really tell from the picture. A regular brush without a wire sticking out of it should be fine as long as it fits in the guide properly.

Does anybody else think this whole site could use a refresh?

Honestly how much money can he rake in charging membership fees? As if I haven't been in that boat before. Over a ten year run of my gaming community, I grossed maybe $400. Net would be maybe -$6000. Negative. I've realized that it was pointless. My efforts were a work of charity, and there was...

    Carbon Dust from Motors

The amount of carbon emitted for, say, an hour of run time is insignificant. Besides, carbon is entirely harmless - you're made of carbon. It's the other stuff in it that you'd worry about, and it's generally just clay as a binding agent. You could pulverize and eat a whole carbon brush and...

    Cadillac

Neat. Purely speculation, but I believe this was meant to be a commercial machine. Quick Vac is their 'industrial' thing, I guess. Would explain the paint job and no headlight.

HOOVER 541 bearing play as a result of wear

If you're gonna ream them anyway, doesn't that mean you could just mush any roughly correct bearings in it, and ream them to size? I'm just guessing, I don't know what it looks like.
