    One Ringy-Dingy...

Love the Landline I had a 1938 Stromberg-Carlson fitted for a modern Landline wall connection. It had the most beautiful subtle chimes when it rang. But when they went "digital", nobody could hear me clearly, and they sounded like they were 10 feet from their phone when talking. Progress!?

    Selling My Beautiful Orange Connie!

Your Connie is in her late 40's From what I've gathered reading some older posts, that Pumpkin/Grey color combo ended in 1971. I'm not sure how far back it started, but with that high a serial number, it could date anywhere from 1967 to 1971 (total guess).

    Problem with Farberware cooktop

Hey fan-of-fans Since the case is metal and the electrical box cover is plastic, my guess is someone left the unit on too long, that heated up the casing so much that it melted the cover. The cord's probably fine, so just keep an eye on things the next few times you use it (maybe use it on a...

    Hoover 700

The quite common "Rare" 700 There are several "Rare" Hoover 700's on Ebay right now. True, the one you found is in your home state, and maybe within driving range. As opposed to paying shipping on an out-state model. Plus, you could actually "test-drive" it, and tell if the motor bearings and...

    Strictly upright or strictly canister?

To each his own... I'm one of the few on this board "bent" on non-electric vacuum cleaners/sweepers. Although I'd love to include many of the venerable 20's & 30's old brand electrics, with limited funds, the nod goes to the "nons". I love the innovation and 'old tech'. But, of course, with...

To keep or not to keep

Hi Oldskoolguy If you can't find a replacement bag off an old "for parts" machine, perhaps you could find a similar zipper at Jo-anns, or some other fabric store/sewing center. They might even be able to suggest a regular customer who does alterations to replace the bag's zipper entirely. But...

    Universal hand vac find!

Hey icee This is the only ad I've seen which even shows a Universal hand held vac. If you look really close, its along the bottom edge to the left of "UNIVERSAL". The tank-type cart the ad features began to be popular around 1950. You've probably seen Kenmore's.

    Universal hand vac find!

About the badge... That's actually the access cover for setting the drive belt on the spindle (like Royals have). Like huskyvacs and human warned, if you're curious whether it runs or not, find out AFTER you've installed the replacement cord.

    Universal hand vac find!

Hello icee Nice to find a fellow Landers, Frary & Clark fan! Your Universal Hand Vac is probably a few years older. When I got mine off Etsy (for $7) it had a lousy cord, too I borrowed 10' from my Eureka Junior Model H, and used the old plug. You need to completely disassemble it to wire in...

    Oh, People's Ignorance

Pete These are some beautiful machines you've got! You must have worked long hours restoring them to better than new. I hope you sell every one for your asking price. Frank

    Looking for any vintage Hoover

Hey toddk13 The collector I got my Hoover 425 from assured me it was an original and unrestored 425 Special. I realize that "Special" means a rebuilt 425. The bag is identical to ones I've seen on other 425's, Special or not. If anyone is interested in buying this item from me, I'm willing...

    My cleaning business vacuums

Hi Rainbowvacfane2 One thing favoring your pursuit of long life is the surfaces you're cleaning. Low pile synthetic glued-down carpet without pet hair or pebbles to contend with, will surely extend the life of any vacuum you choose. Especially if you take a moment to broom the rug at the...
