What is a Eureka Sweet 16? Handheld?

What’s a Eureka Sweet Sixteen? It’s a canister vacuum in the 1600 Series of models from the early 1970’s. There were originally 4 models - 1620, 1640, 1660 and 1680. The 1680 was the deluxe version with Cordaway and audio bag signal on the control panel.

Prince is correct, there were 4 different models that were considered the Sweet 16's. As the commercial states, they are called that because they were suppose to be simple. When they were first introduced, they were just the lower side of Eureka's Canister range, then they were incorporated as the straight suction options to the new 1200 series Power teams. Two of the Sweet 16 modes where basically reissues, with the electric hose, and Power head added.

Thanks for your great YouTube channel Jason!!! It has helped me relive those magical moments of my childhood when luck would surprise me with a rare Eureka commercial. These were usually broadcast on daytime tv while I would be in school. But if I was home sick, I might be watching daytime game shows which every so often had a rare vacuum commercial to reach that “housewife” demographic.
I actually remember seeing that Sweet Sixteen tv commercial! I was so mesmerized that it was over before I realized it! And the climax was that masculine voice of authority stating “....and more kinds of vacuum cleaners than anyone else in the world....” *sigh*. In 1970, I would have been only 11 years old.
These advertisements for Eureka Williams were all created by the giant ad agency Young & Rubicom.
