    to answer your question fantomfan first i took off the ends i then pulled out the wire coil this weakened what was left of the hose enough for me to gently pull the outer sheath of not forgetting that an Electrolux hose is fatter at one end than the other

    inside this is what was left of the inner hose .The metal coil had almost disintegrated [it had got wet at some point]

    i have just stripped this one this is the outer woven part that i plan to slide onto a new hose and then refit the ends .The hose is from a lux 65 and was completely shot so rather than just chuck it i decided to try and save the outer woven bit

    yes i did the exact same thing with mine it worked well .I also run some bath sealant around the joint [underneath where the base fits onto the main body you would be suprised how much air escapes here ] it makes the cleaner float better
