UK Hoover Senior 652C?

Hi Guys

Last weekend, at a car show I went to, I got given lots of vacuums, as I do every year (the forum/club know of my hobby and some people always bring some!)

It was a mixed bag, I have a burnt out Hoover Dustmanagerless, a nearly burnt out Electrolux Vitesse full of broken glass, a lovely but poor running Dustette 2614 in it's original box, with paperwork and everything, and the subject of this post, a Hoover Secior 652A/C

I say A/C, as the ratings plate says 652A, and is of the dateable style, December 1969. However, cast into the chassis is 652C...

I'm a bit confused, as I'm not that knowledgable on this age of Hoover, was there ever a 652C? And why has mine got a split identity?

The zip on the bag is also jammed, I'm going to break out the plusgas, but anyone got any tips on freeing it up? I can't sew, so a new zip will need to be farmed out if it comes to that...

Your really lucky to get the dustette and the senior. Now I don't know much about older Hoover vacs although I have a few in my collection!

Thanks! I'm more chuffed with the dustette as its got its box and paperwork, a few people at the show went through it with me and seemed genuinely interested, which was nice. The senior is a basket case, a refurb for one day, need to get the damn bag zip moving first! If I can't though, I'll prob clean it off as best I can and fit a new bag to the fill tube and insert it up the wrong un to get it working and clean.

has probably been repaired at some point in its life and maybe had a new switch fitted with the diffrent model number on it I have done it myself on many ocassions my own Senior has bits on it from at least 6 different machines .As for the bag spray soak the zip in WD40 and work it back and forth it will soon free up

I'd expect the switch and other bits to be changed, but the chassis has the C stamped in, and I wouldn't have thought the chassis would have needed changing!

Anyway, I've been thinking of paint for it. Currently, it looks white, but it should have been Smoked Pine originally. Has anyone ever had paint mixed from a sample and it been successful? Or is there a common colour that looks just as good?

I got the bag zip free too, using some brute force and ignorance. I gripped the zipper with some pliers, held the bag around the zip and in a 'do or die' way, pulled, and broke the corrosion seal and she zips again! I washed the bag by hand, and made some soup in the process, and I'll run some candle wax up and down the zip to keep it going smoothly. It needs some stitching repair too, so I'll get my needle and thread out one day and tidy that up!

Been refurbishing a December 1969 Hoover Junior 1346 over the last few days though, so the 652C (and others) will have to wait their turn. Just got the brushroll to spray on the Junior and it'll be done!
