    Shake out bag question

That inner pouch is like a glove.  You reach in through the zipper, grasp the tab at the bottom and scrape debris that's clinging to the inside of the dust bag down into the emptor...........without getting your hand dusty.

Kirby Dual Sanitronic or Royal metal?

An earlier Royal like an 880 is a closer match to the D80.  If I pit my D80 against my Royal 9700, the Royal does a much better job.

    My Golden Jubilee.....

Beautiful Congratulations!  That's a prize winner by any measure.  Except for the lack of edge cleaning, I think the PN2 performs very well on low to medium pile carpeting.  It's also much kinder to hand-knotted rugs than newer powernozzles with more aggressive bristles.

    Hoover Brush roll

I got some of those brush strips on ebay.  The seller was bmxgary.

Availability of "air filter" for 1958 Electrolux Automatic Model E

You could take some fiberglass insulation and cut a piece to fit, but sometimes fiberglass has a formaldehyde odor that I find unpleasant.  Another option is to use 3M Filtrete furnace filter material, package for use in "hammock style" furnace filters.  The material is quite thin so I fold it...

    Well This Sure Is Intresting

Not anything like a Rainbow Progress is a German company.  They're still around but they don't make 'em like that any more!  A-1 sold a lot of Progress vacuums back then, and Vorwerk too.  I wonder if the one in the ad was hidden away in the back of the shop and forgotten about.  I used a...

    LUX suction

Don't quote me on this but I believe the late Gs and early 1205s shared the same motor so theoretically they should pull the same suction.   Many years ago I had a late model 1205 that started doing what you describe: suddenly, unpredictably slowing down a bit.  When it started doing that...

    Firestone Eureka Rotomatic Canister Vacuum!

Oh, so you got it..... Congratulations!  I'm glad for you.  I saw the direction the price was heading and decided not to keep bidding.   One of these days I'll add one of those Rotomatics to my collection.  Maybe I'll luck-out with the one that's ending later today on ebay.

The big bad beast, aka Big bertha!

Wow, what timing! I saw one of those at the thrift store this morning for $30.  There were some extra bags for it too!  Now I'm thinking about going back to get it.

    Tool conversions

The Hoovers with tool conversion on the side had spring-mounted rear wheels.  When inserting the converter you first pushed down on the rear of the base, thus lifting the front off the floor.   The fully-inserted converter "locked" the wheels in position.   The GE/Premier uprights had a...

    All Cleaned Up Hoover 719

Nice job, Trevor.  I don't know when I'll ever get around to working on my 719.  Maybe I should have you do it for me!   Neil

    Electrolux Canister Motor Pre-Filter?

Bags:  I haven't found a big difference between DVC Multifilter and genuine Aerus bags.  During the years when there was a cat in the house I went through a bag per week (packed solid) and cost was a factor so I used the DVC bags, but since then I have been using genuine Lux bags.  I often find...

    Electrolux Model XXX (30)

With a fresh filter, gaskets and bag, and if the motor is in tip top shape (bearing, carbon brushes etc) I would say your XXX should be running as well as when it was new.   If you could track down the original technical specs (inches of water lift, etc) that the XXX was rated at when new then...

Just confirming this is normal ?

It's worth a look I don't have any experience with that particular Hoover model but I think having the post-motor filter going completely black in two months is excessive.  It might be worth taking a look at the motor.  Carefully examine the brushes to see if they are reaching the end of their...

i have a devastating kenmore issue. need some help

Ouch! That's a shame but don't give up hope.   I have seen some impressive repairs done by people using some of the newer adhesive products on the market.   You might be able to fix it with some careful surgery and lots of patience.

A Christmas gift to me....from Montgomery Ward

My Montgomery Ward is in much better shape!    I'm thinking that this is a 1930s design which, in the case of mine was carried forward when production resumed after WWII.  The brown color of the MW resonates with many other vacuums of the post-war era.   Now, to find the relevant MW...
