a few questions on a Royal 880 upright

Oh, the chrome covers, gotcha. My replacement 671 motor has those. They're dust caps, the actual brushes are secured with screw-in plastic caps that have a copper lining.

a few questions on a Royal 880 upright

Those screw-in covers on the side of the motor housing do indeed hold in the brushes. Just twist the cap off and the brush slides right out - it's much the same on most Royals (except maybe the newest ones? Not sure.) The oil tube does have a wick in it, I think. Also, as far as the brush roll...

WANTED: Royal 303 or 305 attachment set

I'm looking for a Royal upright attachment kit, either the newer 305 or the older 303. It doesn't need to be complete or in excellent shape - just serviceable. The main things I need beyond the hose and hose adapter are the crevice tool and dusting brush; the upholstery nozzle, wands and floor...

    Panasonic MC-V5210

How's that compare to, say, a Simplicity Symmetry? Pretty close?

    Vacuum Cleaner Industry

Funny thing about the state of modern vacuums - it seems peoples' expectations of what a vacuum will do have changed too. As a case in point - my mother hires a maid, but the maid uses my mother's vacuum. Since she's been using this maid (until recently) she had a Dyson DC24, which did a pretty...

    New EU Regs

Power really seems to hit diminishing returns - for example, do the 2100W EU-model vacuums clean any better than their 1200W American and Canadian equivalents? But, good design is everything. It's the reason a Kirby Legend II is still an awesome cleaner despite its 5A motor, and why a cheap...

    Worth it? Kirby Heritage 84

I'd say so. That's what I paid for my Kirby (a Heritage II Legend), and it was thoroughly worth it.

    Which would you choose?

Between the two, the Miele by a country mile. The Perfect's build quality is suspect, and its power nozzle is a clone of one that's only so-so to begin with. By contrast, the Miele's power nozzle is one of the best on the market. The Miele's filtration is also way better than the Perfect. The...

    Help with Royal 89130C

From my searches, that's a Royal metal upright. Well, it uses either A or B bags. You can easily tell by unzipping the outer bag and looking inside. If there's a tube leading up that you stick a bag onto, those are Type B, and they still make them. If it's a little short tube sticking up from...

    Royal 880 motor replacement

Well, as luck would have it, I just tripped over an entire rear body assembly from a Royal 671Z, which looks like it ought to bolt right on in place of the old motor assembly. Can't argue with the price, either. If it works, excellent. I'd rather not make a Franken-Royal, but since this motor is...

    ADVANCE CARPETRIEVER 28XP

Certainly would take care of large hallways quickly! I've never actually seen one of these before, though. My college used 18" Royals - and made the students vacuum the dorms as a condition of living there.

    Royal 880 motor replacement

Exactly the info I needed, thanks! I have a decent idea where I might find them, and since the bearings on mine seem to be on the blink, it needs some motor work done anyway.

Brand New TACONY Canister - the Wonder!

Hmmm. If it's that quiet, I might seriously think about getting one, and trading my Simplicity 6970 upright. That's a nice machine, but there's no brush roll shutoff for floors and it's pretty loud. I'm looking forward to my local vacuum shop getting these in so I can test it out for myself...

Is it possible to replace or upgrade the motor in a Royal 880?

    What Model Rainbow...

I think that's a model D4, though I'm not a Rainbow expert. Those still fetch a decent price in good condition, and rightly so - they work well, and last. It's probably worth cleaning up, if only to sell.

Filter Queen-Is it old enough to be vintage

Those filters are some of the better bojacks, but you can get the official Filter Queen branded ones on ebay pretty inexpensively. Over time that does make a difference. You also probably want the charcoal cone filter (which goes inside the standard cone) if you have pets. I have cats (and...

Brand New TACONY Canister - the Wonder!

If those hoses are like the ones on the current Tacony canisters, they're less springy than the Miele ones. Not sure how they compare to Sebo - while I've used a Sebo canister, I've never used one side-by-side with a Simplicity. They don't drape quite as nicely as the wire-wound hoses used on...

    Royal bag conversion

I have a Royal 880 that I use at work, that has the original bag, designed for Royal Type A or Eureka F&G bags. Last week, I used up the last bag, and had some trouble finding more. So, an idea struck me - maybe I could convert it to use Kirby bags. The base of the fill tube on my Kirby Heritage...

Brand New TACONY Canister - the Wonder!

Looks *very* nice to me! I hope other colors are available too, but that's my only gripe. Will the shaped aluminum 3-row brush roll still be available in the power nozzle?
