I'm Back, With a Question on Canisters

New production, there's a few good ones: Miele - pretty much any, but get an electric power nozzle if you have any carpets or large area rugs. Riccar/Simplicity - in my opinion even better than Miele; again, spring for the electric power nozzle. Sebo - mixed reviews but they last. Not that the...

    Lamb Advantek motors

Seems like the loss of a little airflow to gain a lot of suction, there. One factor with high sealed suction, is that it helps to maintain airflow over a restricted air path (like a hose). I wonder if, in practice, the 119800 wouldn't produce better airflow at the carpet than the 115923 would? I...

My find on this stormy Sunday

I'd have to double-check, but that looks like a later 95x, just before the Triple Crown, so that'd put it at late 80s to early 90s. Still, a very nice machine once you get it cleaned up! The nice part is that even if it's a little doggy-smelling now, FQs don't have too many places for stench to...

    Should I?

Yeah, that's a good deal, especially with the tools. And the Heritage II is less hassle to keep going than many of the same vintage - the belts are easily available and it can use G-series bags. (At least mine can - I've heard some use the older fill tube. If this is one of those, I think you...

    Hose length

That's a big part of the reason why I love my Filter Queen. It's got an 8 foot hose, which is more than enough 95% of the time - and if it's not, there was an 11 foot hose for the Princess series, that'll work just fine on any other FQ out there. IIRC it was even electrified. My Simplicity...

    Quiet Upright

I'd vote for the Miele S7 as the quietest but I have some serious misgivings about its durability, in particular the swivel head. So, in lieu of it, I'd recommend any of the Sebo uprights. I don't think they're the world's best deep cleaners, but they're not bad, very durable, and quiet. If you...

    Filter Queen Question

It's also worth mentioning that all the tools are interchangeable between all Filter Queens from the earliest models through the 95x, at least. Only the Triple Crown and 360 use different tools, and even those can be used with older ones if you use the right hose. All the machine-hose...

I bought an Oreck XL... What's wrong with me?

They're not bad, all in all. Airflow's a little weak and for the price I'd rather have one of the Tacony ultralights (those kick butt), but they're well-made and they last. An interesting idea is to modify one into a power nozzle for a powerful canister, and have a sort of tandem-air setup...

    Water-Matic Filter-Magic vacuum.

Fairfax without the bags about sums it up - it's a bit more convenient than a Silver King with its disposable filter, and clogs less than the older SK filters. It's about even, in my opinion, with the newer ones. Doesn't filter as well as a Filter Queen, in my opinion, but it's not too far off.

Looking for Dyson demo videos that show the reality of Dyson

Look up Dyson vs Riccar or Dyson vs Simplicity on Youtube. Others like Miele or Royal compare just as well, but the demos done with the Tacony vacs are probably the most impressive. All of them really shake loose the dust, as can be seen in the Dyson vs Riccar video above.

Silver King, the most undeservingly maligned vacuum amongst collectors.

Those nozzles were made by the Douglas company, as I recall, and used with a whole bunch of vacuums. I've personally seen them with Sani-Clean and Silver King, but I think they shipped with others too. In my experience they perform alright if paired with good airflow, though probably not as...

Most Ideal Royal upright vacuum to have.

I keep hoping to find another 996 in good condition. I found one, but gave it to my mother to replace a dying Dyson, and it works like no other vacuum before or since. It seems to be nearly the perfect combination of features, power, lack of serious noise and usability.

    Vax air powerhead

UK-US vac differences Oddly, we have mostly uprights in the US too. It's the suction-only canisters we mostly don't get, and if you do want one, it's usually a high-end brand: Sebo, Riccar, Miele, etc.

    Thrift shop Filter Queen

That's the same Model 95x that I have. The power nozzle looks just like the one you have in the second pic except that the hood is silver/chrome (chromed plastic, it's not a metal hood, unfortunately). If my phone cooperates, maybe I can get a photo of mine. I don't use the PN anymore - I got a...

What's your favorite vintage Kirby model?

I believe my favorite would be the Legend II. It's a little on the modern side, but to me, it's the best of the modern and classic Kirby - classic look and feel with modern convenience.

    Lindhaus/Stealth vs Wessel EBK360

I'd vote for the EBK360. I have one that I use with a Filter Queen, and its performance is outstanding - the agitation is on par with my Kirby and Simplicity uprights. It grooms really well too, much better than the stock Filter Queen power nozzle. As for the headlight, it's white, but since...

    Best vacuum tools?

Mine are rather varied. Hand turbo tool: Dyson tangle-free. Hand power brush: Wessel Werk HEB160. Dusting brush: Filter Queen (or Royal, with the 303 attachment set - it's a tie). Crevice tool: either the Kenmore Powermate tool from late-70s canisters (the weird-shaped one) or Filter Queen...

What's the most powerful/best deep cleaning Kirby? UK

Yeah, the Sentria would be the most powerful. If you can't find an affordable one, though, the G6 is a great machine too.

2 More HOOVER factories are closing

The metal Royals are mostly still as good as they used to be - but I'm beginning to think they're the exception that proves the rule. Pretty much nothing else in the line is especially well-made. TTI still has some interesting designs, but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Apparently, I get rewarded for bad experiences with a Heritage?

Yep, exactly what was suggested above. If dust leaks around the zip tie, try using a hose clamp instead - that's what I did to secure a Generation fill tube to the oval Type A fill tube on a Royal, and it works just fine.
