I bought an Oreck XL... What's wrong with me?

It was $10 at the thrift store and it's really clean... I don't know why I bought it though. I don't even like Orecks. I think they're too light to clean properly and are as noisy as a Eureka Bravo with bearing problems.

I'm insane because I put another $15 into it to give it a new brushroll (which hasn't arrived yet.) But I stupidly forgot the bags...

Anyway... I will probably end up selling this thing. Either here, Craigslist, or eBay. I don't know why I bought a machine I knew I wasn't going to like... Just like my DC07 Animal!

It doesn't really need a new brush.... But if I'm going to be selling it, I better put a new one in anyway.

it is a scremer

looks a little newer then the one I own and yes they are noise kind of reminded me of a hair dryer the first few times I used it. but don't underestimate the power of that light weight I used my Oreck professionally as a custodian in a manufacturing plant. me and the other custodians loved it. it cleaned rugs better and faster than all our other machines in fact it was so lightweight we could strap it to the custodian carts was super convenient. really not a bad looking one you have there ether for the right price I'm sure it will have no problem selling

They're not bad, all in all. Airflow's a little weak and for the price I'd rather have one of the Tacony ultralights (those kick butt), but they're well-made and they last.

An interesting idea is to modify one into a power nozzle for a powerful canister, and have a sort of tandem-air setup. Maybe use one with a Filter Queen or a Silver King?

I have yet to find a FilterQueen or Sliver King.

I almost bought a FilterQueen for $100 at the flea market, and that was after talking him down from $150... But I only had $80 on me.

Since I bought the Vax VCU02 which is a direct copy of the Oreck XL, I must admit I rather like having a dirty fan upright again. But I have to be careful with its usage since I have wool loop carpets.

I wish the prices of the Oreck range would drop in the UK. There is no way I would pay over £100 for one. They are convenient, if not a little noisy and the plastic build is suspect at times. The cost prices of £250 to £300 means SEBO commercial upright money, which is a totally different proposition altogether.

the screeching!

ONLY depends on the motor it sold with! I find the older Orecks (such as my XL9100) have a softer hum to them, far off from a screamer! I do recommend Orecks for those who need a lightweight upright, and I do gift them to those who need a lightweight upright. But I only refurbish and gift the older 9100 series with the step on switch. The last one I gifted was in July 2013. A month later, the women I have the XL9100 to stopped by in her car while I was working on the yard. She said she LOVES that Oreck! All they had before it was a Dirt-Devil carpet sweeper. Their Rainbow and Dirt Devil had become to much of a hassle for them to use.

I believe it's the Johnson motors that scream, the older Amteks are a dream! I'll have to check which one my XL9100 has, I forget!

It's a shame you don't like the DC07 Animal, I would deffinately have the Dyson over the Oreck.

Having said that I do get my first Oreck tomorrow, no idea what model it is maybe refurb or just sell it on. I do like how the underneath houses a spare belt on the oreck.

So got the Oreck today, snapped belt !! Put the spare on from underneath and it works a treat. Have decided to keep it. And as SEBO FAN said I will keep a spare bag in the rear pocket.

Shame it doesn't have a quick release for the cable.

Hhhmmmmm,,,

Rather embaressed I noticed the cable release after I posted this. And to make sure I knew everything about the Oreck I printed off the owner manual to keep. But thank you for pointing it out to me.

Sebo fan let me know if you would like to talk about my Felix Fun sometime.
