    The new Stateside Dyson line...

Gizmodo kinda stinks like that - use Adblock Plus aggressively. That aside, I kinda like the look of the Dyson handhelds. The upright, OTOH - call me when it gets the sand and grit out as well as a Riccar or a Kirby. They *do* get up the kitty fuzz fairly well, but the agitation needed to get...

    The Kirby's Invade....

Very nice array of Kirbys! Which one, if any, is the daily driver?

In dreams, I walk! With VACUUMS!

Odd this topic should pop up today - I had a dream last night involving a Kirby Legend II and a door-to-door Riccar salesman. (Though, as far as I know, Riccars were never sold door-to-door).

Rainbow vs. Fantom Thunder, last vac wins the demo, in response to Kill a Kirby

I remember as a kid watching a Rainbow demo with that floodlight. The salesman was demoing a D4, I think, against my mother's Filter Queen (model 31, IIRC), and the floodlight test wasn't especially impressive. That said, the Rainbow sure did pull up a lot of dirt - mostly because it had a power...

    monsters? frankinvav.

I've actually seen a "Royal King" setup - a Silver King with a Royal 880 hooked up as a power nozzle. Worked like a charm :)

    Kirby salesperson worst nightmare

I suppose another question might be, against which vacuums does the Kirby wind up looking the most impressive? Patterns of use matter, too, and that's harder to tell, but I imagine you'd pull up a lot more fuzz behind a Dyson DC01 used weekly, than behind (say) a Sebo D4 used daily.

    Vacuum for my mother-suggestions

Though it's a little expensive, maybe a Sebo Felix? Those are much lighter than the X-series.

    Some pictures of my collection

Very cool collection! Love the tons of Luxes.

My new Kirby Heritage 2 legend

Also, that's one of the finest Kirbys ever made - lighter and more nimble than the Generation series, more powerful than the previous models, and a nicer color scheme than the Legend II. Plus, you can use the newer bags, or at least mine can.

EU energy-saving rules cut power of vacuum cleaners

I won't deny the efficiency of direct-air machines, and heck, Royals and Kirbys even have good hose suction (at the cost of rather cumbersome tools) . That said - canisters can manage good performance on less than 900W, too. Look at some of the older Filter Queen, TriStar or Silver King...

    Got a Patriot

I'm not sure which power nozzle that would have shipped with. I know the newer ones include either the Sebo ET-1 or Wessel Werk EBK360; either would be a great choice. So would the Tristar CXL nozzle.

Needing a new every day vacuum - Advice

One thing with the Sebo canisters - they're one of the few still sold in the UK with an electric power nozzle. In fact, it's the same nozzle as the Sebo Felix (or optionally the wider ET-2 - not sure if that's available in the UK, but I do see it from time to time here in the US). It does a...

Any Word on NEW Riccar Canister? (getting close to end of year)

Well, the current Riccar canisters offer better deep cleaning, IMHO, than the current Aerus TOL. The power nozzle is excellent as is the suction, airflow and filtration. Interestingly, it turns out the current power nozzle is apparently made by Cen-Tec (CPB-100) though it looks nothing like...

SIMPLICITY SYMMETRY/RICCAR VIBRANCE vs HOOVER WINDTUNNEL SUPREME NON SELF PROPELLED

Actually, the "Convertible workalike" is pretty much what the Simplicity Freedom and Riccar Supralite are. They *look* like an Oreck, but are quite a lot more powerful. No attachments, but then, that's the tradeoff. Sanitaires are also a credible option in the "simple direct-air with bag"...

SIMPLICITY SYMMETRY/RICCAR VIBRANCE vs HOOVER WINDTUNNEL SUPREME NON SELF PROPELLED

Based on my experience, the Simplicity will both work better and last longer. As far as agitation goes, I think it does a better job than everything except a Sanitaire, Eureka with VG1/VG2 or a Royal with brush stiffeners, and even with Kirby. The Windtunnel setup has some theoretical...

    The "SonicClean" upright...

I'd be willing to give it a fair shake, I suppose - though the agitation doesn't *seem* to be any better than a Simplicity Freedom / Riccar Supralite, and it doesn't seem to pull dust toward the nozzle the way Royals, Sanitaires and most of the Tacony uprights do.

    New color Royal bag...

AFAIK, all Royals are made in China now. Fortunately, their QC doesn't seem to have gotten markedly worse.

    New color Royal bag...

The only major distinction I'd make is that the Royal has attachments available and uses a top-fill bag. Beyond that, they're pretty comparable, yeah.

    Vac mods

I've MacGyvered a Wessel Werk EBK360 power nozzle onto my Filter Queen 95x. Seems to deliver much better agitation now, and does a better job on the rather crappy carpets in this house. I'd sorta like to replace the hose with a larger-diameter crushproof hose, too, but mostly because the...

    Prolux?

There are some newer machines with the Prolux name that look kind of like current Royal canisters. I'm not sure if TTI makes those or not.
