    cool website with old catalogs

It Looks Like: WishbookWeb is down, at least for the moment. I am making an educated guess, but I would bet that Christmas traffic for the site probably exceeded Globat's bandwidth limits, and now they want more money to host the site. They're probably shutting it down until they can come to...

Bakelite ad featuring Electrolux Model LX

Um.... This is most definitely a Bakelite ad, in that the Bakelite Company created it. However, if you'll read the copy, you'll see that the plastic being touted is not Bakelite itself, which was and is a composite of phenolic resin and wood flour. The plastic being advertised here is...

Vacuum Cleaners in Films & Movies!

A Very Timely Thread! Why? Because I need a vacuum from a movie identified. The movie is "All That Heaven Allows" (1955). I already know the vacuum in question is a Lewyt, but what I do not know is, what model it is, and where this model fell in the model line-up. Meaning, was it the TOL...

Sears Kenmore Power-Mate, Jr. and Other Mini Power Nozzles

Lux Sidekick: I have one and would not want to be without it. The thing it does best is to get kitty hair off furniture with speed and thoroughness. I have a velvet-upholstered ottoman that is my cat Marty's favorite place in the whole house. It's dark red, and Marty is grey, black and white...

    BEST Cleaning Suction Carpet Nozzle?

OOPS! After I let all the photos download, I saw that Erik had already provided a photo of the Compact/Tristar rug shoe that is much better than mine!

    BEST Cleaning Suction Carpet Nozzle?

The Best Rug Cleaning Tool Is: The adjustable Powermate found on late-'70s/early '80s Lady Kenmores. With a tap of the toe, you could adjust the brushroll height for any carpet you were cleaning. If you liked - and I did - you could adjust it a little lower than recommended for extra-deep...

    BEST Cleaning Suction Carpet Nozzle?

Rug Shoe: Here's another photo of my CXL; it shows the rug shoe, which I have in addition to the real rug nozzle. The rug shoe is the clear plastic thingy in between the bare-floor and rug tools:

    BEST Cleaning Suction Carpet Nozzle?

Compact/Tristar Rug Tool: On Compact/Tristar machines, rug nozzle performance is very good indeed, IF you have the real rug nozzle. A lot of machines have a plastic clip-on thingy called a "rug shoe"; it clips over the bristles on the bare-floor nozzle. It does not work nearly as well as...

    Unusual Revelation

Wheels vs. Glides I grew up with a Compact C-2, and I own a TriStar CXL, so I've experienced both glides and wheels. On the C-2, the wheels were at the rear, furthest away from the hose, so what you did was lift up on the hose a bit and that lifted the front off the glides, leaving the rear...

Another gala weekend at Tarantula Arms

Looks Like: A swellegant, elegant time was had by all. Did you give guided tours of Works in Progress, a.k.a. the master bath?

    Desperate TriStar

You Could.... Sell it to me if the price is right!

    Most expensive Kirby ever!

Oh, Ye Gods. It looks like a nice machine, but it would not be worth that if it had once been the personal property of Queen Elizabeth II and came with pictures of her in a pinny and kerchief, using it to vacuum the halls in Buckingham Palace.

Vacuums for sale or trade, also shampooers and a polisher.

I Give Up: I've made three attempts at contact over the past 36 hours, with no response. I wish you the best with selling these machines.

Vacuums for sale or trade, also shampooers and a polisher.

Paging Kevin....Paging Kevin.... Kevin: I've been trying to reach you at your .edu email address, and have not heard back. I am interested in one of the machines shown, and would like to discuss it with you. Could you contact me at [email protected] ? I am not an upgraded member on this...

    First Compact

Definitely a C-4: I missed the flat-top bag door; that nails Tom's identification of the machine. SEVEN BUCKS? You will have to pay more than that to replace a bristle strip on one of the tools, LOL. You did very well indeed!

    First Compact

P.S.: It's pretty sure Tom is right, and that's a C-4, but I was hedging my bets because of that wand in the way. Whatever it is, you did well.

    First Compact

Well.... It looks like the photo leaves a little room for doubt; I think there's a chance it could also be a C-5, manufactured from around 1961 to around 1970. The big visible difference in a C-4 and a C-5 is that a C-5 has three casters - one swivel caster at the front and two stationary ones...

A deep cleaner tool for sofa its fit on Shop-Vac?

Heartbreaking, But.... As much as I loved my Kenmore Power Spray, there came a time when there were just no more parts, and no more resuscitation measures possible. I got a Bissell ProHeat 2X, and it turned out to be a much better cleaner anyway. The optional attachment set available direct...

    Lux 1205 Popping Open

Thanks, Hans! I'll give that a shot. As they say in Brooklyn, it couldn't hoit!
